(Btw, admin, I HATE it when you move a relevant post like this to a section that gets little attention. If I wanted it in TRIPS I would have put it there. It's not about the trip, it's about how great of a roadtrip vehicle the Maverick is)

I made a quick trip from northern Indiana where I live out to McMinnville, Oregon and back... 2.270 miles each way. The destination was the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. I left Tuesday morning at 9am EDT and returned home one week later on Tuesday at 6:45pm EDT. I averaged 31.8 mpg driving 73-83mph. Mileage numbers were confirmed on the way out, which showed that the trip computer is highly accurate.

Ford Maverick 4,540 miles in 4 days of driving... Maverick Evergreen 1

The driving portion was less than 48 hours out, and less than 48 hours coming back, so I actually covered 4,540 miles in a little under 4 days total. Stopping is stripped down to as little as possible to fuel up and use a real toilet instead of a bottle like I do most of the trip. I sleep for 4 hours laying down in the back seat, and then get rolling again. I do all the eating while moving. I also had the bed of the truck full of gear for some video work, including 120 pounds of sand bags for light stands.

My AWD XLT 2.0 Ecoboost with 4K towing didn't miss a beat the entire trip. This is the most intense road trip I've done, but I have done trips to Reno before like this when I had an Chevy HHR Panel. The HHR always did really well, and was oddly comfortable for long distances, but Maverick was perfectly comfortable, even better than the HHR was... the Maverick is truly the best overall vehicle I've ever had. And I'm 62, I've had quite a few cars/trucks over the years.

What I'm trying to say is that I love my Maverick even more at 30,000 miles than I did when I first got it new!

In the motorcycle world you just did an "Ironbutt Ride", actually four of them.

Curious how you slept in the back seat...door(s) open?
I'm sure the "Spruce Goose" was amazing.

Got my PL in a 1946 Taildragger...currently waiting for a rebuild...they all must be yellow. For those not aware, everything is controlled by pullies and cables, but had a starter so no prop jerking..

Wow you drive like me. And I had an HHR panel too. I drove my son to College in California from Chicago.

We made it 1,340 miles the first day in the HHR, loaded to the top. Stayed 5 hours in a hotel in Evanston Wyoming by the Utah border. Then drove rest of the way to catch the Sunset over the Pacific in SF Bay.

I should have my Hybrid Maverick in about 8-10 weeks. And yes, the HHR Panel was a great road tripper. We took it to Florida and Canada too.

I'm 5-11 and if I bend my knees it's not bad laying on the back seat. It helps to have a bad case of white line fever, 'cause then you don't really care how comfortable it is. Seriously tho, I think it's fine... but then again, I think it's fine to pee in a bottle at 75 mph : )

I was over in the Space building of the museum for almost all of my 3-1/2 days there working on a project, but I did get to see the Spruce Goose before I left. It's amazing for sure. I saw it a long time ago when it was in Long Beach next to the Queen Mary.

It was a great trip!

Very cool you had a Panel HHR too. I told many people that it didn't seem extra comfy to drive around town, but for some reason it was really non-fatiguing for crazy long drives. I put almost 190,000 miles on the HHR, but a semi spun me out in the rain at night and it seemed like the ole girl was ready to retire after that.

I did 1,296 miles on my first day coming back from Oregon, but you beat me with that 1,340 mile day! Good job : )

Thanks for sharing this story and bring this place to our attention! We're considering driving from Florida to the Seattle area and visit the Boeing Museum of Flight while I'm up in that area. I usually drive down the Columbia River when in route, so swinging by to see this museum is a wonderful idea. (y)

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is definitely a great stop. The Spruce Goose alone is worth the visit, but they also have a fantastic SR-71 Blackbird display.

And of course lots of other aircraft to see as well : )

The airplane looks like a PA-11. Great later version of the Cub.

I restored a Super Cub 6 years ago for a half brother I have who lives in California. It took 13 months of full time work that I did in Indiana.
