I've noticed on a few occasions that my DRL will not turn on as they should, and at other times they function correctly. Unless I'm mistaken, are they not supposed to come on as soon as the trucklet is started? The green indicator on the dash is sometimes on and sometimes not. The last time it wasn't I checked and the DRL were not on. Am I missing something? Do they only come on after driving a certain distance? My headlight switch stays on auto mode always.

And they come on only when in drive, you are probably checking when in park. And the green indicator only comes on for headlights (even though DRL are low beams), not DRLs.

I seem to recall that they only come on when you have a gear selected.

XLT don't have DRL as far as I know, pretty sure It's Lariat exclusive til 25's, the DRL are just your low beams on
“DRL” aka “daytime running light” is just a generic term for lighting used to improve visibility to other drivers. Depending on the vehicle, it might be the low beams, the high beams, or separate accent lighting. It can be incandescent or LED.

For clarity - the XL and XLT trims have always had DRLs, utilizing the low beam headlights, as you pointed out. What they lack is the LED accent lights in the headlamp cluster that the Lariats have.

@chadrob30 the conditions required for the DRLs to be active are on pages 94-95 of the owners manual.

With Forscan you can add the Canadian Light mode, wich gives you the chance to "tick" a checkox on dashboard cluster "daytime running lights" or something like that.
