Like most things, price increases are expected. But with the Maverick now starting at like $27k, this truck being around $20k after rebate should appeal to many. Especially the crank window crowd. Lol.
fwiw
Power windows are an option
Cruise control is standard.
Looks like it has a decent standard feature list.
Was told a hitch will be available too.

one thing it does not have is a spare tire standard. There’s a full size swing out bumper mount option but really thinks it needs something under the bed. Even a mini spare would be good.

A few things I think a lot of skeptics missed...

  • Two doors. Or four doors. Truck. Or SUV. You choose. You change. On the fly.
  • Composite body panels. No dents. No rust. Any color you like with a cheap wrap. Which you can change at will. Or demonstrate that you're not vain by leaving it gray.
  • No crazy tech. Unless you want it. In which case you put your phone or tablet in the holder with their app. Instant tech.
  • AWD accounted for in the future. You guessed it. Just an accessory.
  • Maintenance nationwide via thousands of associate repair shops.
  • Choice of range. 150 or 240. Choose your range. Pay for it or not. Hint - most people drive 20 miles a day on average.
  • Built in the USA (not Mexico) with USA components. You know, like the Santa Cruz. Except in Indiana.
  • Two feet shorter than the Maverick with a longer bed. That will take plywood flat.
The list goes on. It's not a high-end luxury Rivian R1T. Here's a free hint: neither is the Maverick.

I have a feeling when people find out that charging overnight with a 20 AMP 120v receptacle only adds 10 to 20 miles of range they will see they have been duped.
I guess you don't sleep much.
Good for you.

A 120 V 20A connection will add 5 miles of range per hour.

Most of us (you excluded) are home about 12 hours per night. 12x5 = 60 miles of range.

Almost every workplace has at least some exterior 120 AC outlets. Most employers will be happy to see you using them.

Charge at home. Charge at work. Drive 120 miles or less per day? Easy peasy.

Manually adjustable rearview mirrors, just like my XL. I hope Ford patented the concept. :)

Lots of creative thinking went into this new truck. I have doubts about their ability to meet their price objective, doubts about the future of EV rebates, concerns about range, etc etc, but this is a much more practical/innovative design than the CyberTruck.

When you brought the CT into the conversation that isn't saying much. I agree the stuff that Slate, and Telo for that matter are checking boxes for practicality.

As soon as someone says "the average person only"... How many things that are this expensive have you ever bought based on "the average person only" measuring stick? Anyone? Do these people ever listen to themselves and think... Gosh, I just realized my current vehicle can go 300 miles... WHAT WAS I THINKING??? LOL

I have been listening to some of the coverage and it sounds like the Bezos thing may have been exaggerated for whatever reasons.

I'd seriously consider it as it fits my needs. In a 2 seater I don't need power windows (also risky if you get caught in a water disaster). Many don't realize how much extra weight the vehicle carries with lithium iron batteries characterized as "always traveling with the weight of a full gas tank whether it is 10% or 90% charged and you drive only 30mi/day". In yesteryear, AAA would come and jump a dead battery, today the sell you a new one (I've walked by the contract service in the area, with a pallet full of batteries that get turned over to resellers on cl). The original darpa self driving challenge is the ideal model for those with range anxiety. Buy an ev with adequate (smaller) range and give them (or sell) a plan for X numbers of an autonomous vehicle service trips that will travel to you and give you a recharge. Either that or adopt swapable batteries (common in other countries - and common sense like with your cordless tools). Battery packs would have A,B,C grades of kwh so your every day commute might be fine with C grade, and you swap for A grade with your summer vacation.. It wasn't that long ago when we insisted on our own personal bbq gas cylinder, but now swapping has become acceptable. Also, I see in the videos how they accommodate a foot well for the 2nd row, so there's a possibility for additional battery space in a 2 seater. And for fun, I googled what I paid for my first mid level new car >40 years ago in today's dollars accounting for inflation, and these prices are in the ball park.

Funded by Jeff Bezos? Hard no. Besides it looks like a plastic toy kids play with. I bet it's equally as shite as the Cyber truck which is a hard no too.
I remember when I said "Jeff Bezos? Amazon Stock = Hard No!!!" 😭😭😭

My uneducated crystal ball: It'll have a decent start but will not have mainstream success. Framework does the same thing for laptops and it has a small, loyal following but Dell isn't losing sleep.
