I attended the Slate road show in Ferndale MI yesterday and came away impressed. It’s larger than I thought and I like the size overall.

The truck seems very solid but I think there are a few things that could be improved. All of the panels, pieces, etc that are bolted on look like they could be future squeak points. I could move some pretty easy but since it is a prototype they’ll probably address that.

I also didn’t like that the door openings have a lip on the bottom you need to step over probably for structural purposes. Overall I was impressed but I’ll wait to see what future production units look like. Pics are from the event and the model was a lifted unit with lots of accessories.

Thanks for sharing, it's definitely fascinating, though it looks a bit cramped (possibly even less room than my old Ranger?). What's that thing left of the steering wheel, a speaker?

I think it’s a decorative panel but it could be a speaker. Dash was covered with different panels of cloth like materials

Thank you for posting and pictures.
If there are no incentives in 2026.
Do you feel it is worth $27,500+ ?

I will wait until I see a base model in person to make that call. The one in the pictures was heavily optioned and I would pay 27 for it.

Thanks for posting the pics and sharing your impressions.

I don't think the Slate would be a good fit for me personally, but I love to see companies inovate, and I particularly like Slate's attempt to deliver an affordable, utilitarian, and modular vehicle.

I have a $50 deposit on a Slate just for fun. I'm curious to see one in person, and I'm going to enjoy watching the news. Will they survive so I can buy one? I dunno. Will the mythical Ford Skunk Works BEV midsize blow it out of the water? Will another OEM shock the market with a trucklet smaller than the Maverick in the next 18 months? I dunno. But I'm glad somebody is trying to build and sell something like this.

I'll be looking at one with power windows and doors, AWD, heated seats, the bigger battery, and some interior options (all of these have been announced, at more money of course). Curious to see how much that will cost and how it will compete with other product come 2027 (when it hits the market in volume).

A lot of Slate haters and skeptics on MTC, and that's cool. It's new product from an untested OEM in a political environment that's super-hostile for BEVs. Slate has a lot of work ahead to overcome all that and succeed. Personally, I hope they live long and prosper. Because the Maverick needs more and better competition.

With the 7500 gone I would think its pretty much dead on arrival.

If the demo was optioned out it would be well over 30K. Base model 27 K. Yikes. BUT to each there own . .

The Slate doesn't meet my 'use case' so I'm not interested in buying one at this time but I'd like to see it be a decent small electric truck and succeed. Just because it may not be right for me right now doesn't mean I want it to fail. The way I see it, the more choices, options, and competition we have, the better for all of us.

It'll end up that the only ones they ship for the first year are the ones with all the options and that obnoxious "rich but maybe in hock to his eyeballs and cosplaying" dude you know will be like....
"I got a slah-tay for my wife, only $70,000 with all the trimmings" and that will be the first one you see in real life.

It will end up costing ~ 26K with nothing. A base maverick is ~30K for a real truck with a radio and a paint job.
A Maverick might be a real truck, but Mavericks have nothing even close to a real paint job. 😀
