Hybrids have basically made diesels irrelevant in the max fuel economy game for basic light passenger vehicles that are not operating in the arctic or towing a whole lot. Not to mention if you're a fan of old, reliable tech, the atkinson cycle ICE Toyota and Ford use at least is your basic naturally aspirated, port injected, no gee wiz stuff that actually makes it a ticking time bomb.VW already has the diesel pickups in other countries & they get fuel mileage in the 50's. Would rather have one of them. They will still run at 30 below zero without losing 40% of the range & a lot of stations where you can fill up in less than 5 minutes.
