No trailer brakes on this setup.
This is the weekend when the Mav will be tested with our toon! Hope it performs like yours, but with our back wheels in the drink ( i.e. slippery conditions). At least the front wheels will be on dry pavement and I'll be using premium fuel for a little more hp
. It totals 3,900 lbs including everything (fuel, oil, gear lube, steering cables, etc.) So it's close to the max rated towing. The back wheels were a few inches deep in the water and no loss of traction whatsoever getting up the ramp! No need to heavily accelerate and it pulled the boat/trailer right up and out without any strain. At the end of each drive the engine temp did not go above 4 led lights as it always does fully warmed up with no trailer or cargo except a driver (me). I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Don't think I'd want to drive hundreds of miles being close to the max towing capacity, but I have no desire to try since our lake is only down the road and it's the best in the USA!!
I pull a 6x12 shaved ice trailer with mine with a 4500 watt generator in the truck bed. The trailer weighs 2650 empty, probably pushing the 4k tow limit loaded and with full water tanks. Truck does great!
Thanks for the info, that is good to hear! My trailer gwr is just shy of 3000, 3500 watt genny at 100lbs so no issues there the other incidentals maybe another 200lbs. Not maxed but close to it. I do hotdogs and the like.
I know I'm a little late here, but nice rig! Hard to believe you fished Pinawa and don't have a broken prop23’ pontoon? No problem. These types of pontoons are generally 110 lbs per foot and the trailer is about 1000 lbs. Also, truck was empty, so total is well under the 4k pound limit, even after filling it up with fuel. So, estimate this to be about 3600 lbs. Launched it at the boat launch with no issues at all.
For MPG numbers, I didn't capture it for this boat, but for my 18' fibreglass boat (estimate bo be 3300 lbs), I got the following info on towing: After a flat 90min drive, mileage was about 16.7L/100km (14 mpg) in Tow Mode. Compared the the same drive without the trailer 9.5L/100km (24.7 mpg) in Eco Mode, even with the roof top box. I'm told that highway driving in tow mode may not be the best for fuel economy, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
If you have a bunk trailer install bunk glides. Makes the boat slide on and off soo much easier so you don't have to put it in as far. They're pretty cheap and easy to put on.
Do they have to go the whole length of the bunks?

Lol! Yup, been camping here for 12 seasons. Bumped a few times, but no really big damage (yet). This pontoon belongs to a friend of mine, who needed it launched that day, and didn't have his truck with him. I tow and launch my 18' bowrider without issue with my Mav XL w/ 4k tow package and AWD. I'm waiting on mine still, and need to tow my 16' Lund so anxious to see how it compares to my F-150.No. Some people install down the entire length, but it is not required. The standard installation instructions for most of these products is even spacing that has them close enough together to prevent your boat from contacting the carpet too much. If they are installed in 1 foot lengths every other foot for example that is typically sufficient.
If your lund is aluminum... You should be fine. 4k is on spot especially for short drives. Imo and experience.Very nice! Say Hi to Brent
