Just got my window sticker today and I noticed the rated mpg for my hybrid is 40/33/37 city/highway/combined VS 42/33/37. Why the change? Is my mav too heavy?

Most likely, it's a case of "new model year, new EPA rules for estimating mileage"... But the "real world" mileage is probably unchanged.

I wouldn't worry about it. The initial marketing had the hybrid rated at 40mpg city, and the weird thing is that when they announced 42mpg city they didn't update the overall 37mpg (when it should be 38 @ 42hwy/33city).

2023 Escape Hybrid also dropped from 200 HP to 191-192HP. Seems like they’ve been recalculating things between model years - other models have been affected. No evidence of any significant hardware changes that would explain the new lower numbers.

Wouldn’t worry about it unless real world driving shows a decrease in efficiency.

Could be emissions changes, or rating rule changes.

FWIW I've found that 42MPG is fair for city in good weather, 40MPG is probably much more fair for a mix of warm/cold (cold being below 40F)
