You've inspired me to do the calculation. Will take time to recoup cost but idk about decades unless we are figuring in extra hybrid maintenance (which I am honestly ignorant of so please educate me if I'm missing something).

I averaged the posted city and highway mpg. Hybrid 37.5 mpg and EB 25 mpg.

Hybrid: 5000 miles/37.5 mpg = 133.3 gallons per year. 133 gallons x $3 per gallon = $400 gas expense per year

EB: 5000 miles/25 mpg = 200 gallons per year. 200 gallons x $3 per gallon = $600 gas expense per year

$200 differential per year = 7.5 years to break even.

Do you even want to know that your current ride at 13 mpg is costing you about twice what you would be paying for the EB model?

Hi everyone,

I've been on the fence but finally ready to order a Maverick. Hoping for XLT AWD Hybrid but may settle for XLT FX4 eco boost AWD (need orange-free interior). I understand order banks and specs release August 1 and I have a few questions.

1. Is there an advantage to ordering August 1st vs later in the opening week?

2. I understand this is speculative, but what does the brain trust guess the wait/build time is for AWD Hybrid? I can be patient, just curious on everyone's thoughts.

3. Price increase. I'm having a hard time mathing my "line in the sand" price differential for AWD Hybrid vs AWD Ecoboost. I only drive about 5k per year but I love the idea of hybrid because I'm so cheap I often decline 1-2 hour day trips due to gas prices. (I drive a 13 mpg 1998 Dodge ram) So, please walk me through your thoughts on prices for XLT AWD Hybrid. How much more would you pay for AWD hybrid, and why? No right or wrong answer here I just want to hear other perspectives. Thanks!!

5k miles year does not sound like you need a new vehicle at all.

but doing some math, 5000 miles divided by 20 mpg (very low for ecoboost) is 250 gallons of gas. 5000 divided by 45mpg (high for hybrid) is 111 gallons. 250-111 = 139. multiply that by premium gas cost and you're still under 800 bucks. that's the max difference in fuel cost and it could be less than half that.

I need a vehicle upgrade. I'm driving a 98 Ram that gets 13 mpg. Heat and AC don't work. Paint is peeling. It only plays cassette tapes. Sucks getting kids in/out of the 2 door set up. Do I need a brand new car? No, I could definitely buy used but comparing costs of a used truck vs new one you're not getting much of a discount for used anymore. They are really holding their value, and financing for new is at much better rates.

Welcome, Fellow 2025 orderer! Personally, I'm planning for an Eruption Green XLT Hybrid AWD! That said, I've had to set a drop-dead price of $37k (after all the options I want), and I'm worried I won't be able to make that happen.

2. Wait time: I'm planning for 6-8 months. MOST of the supply chain constraints are solved, but I think the AWD components might be a challenge if they're the eAWD system that's shared with the Escape. Ford can probably get plenty of those parts, but can they get them to Mexico in a timely manner? Not sure. Obviously I'm hoping for less!

3. I don't think they will increase the price ($1500) for Hybrid. However, I would expect AWD to be AT LEAST the same cost, if not more like $2000-2500. If the AWD option also increases tow capacity, then expect it to be on the high end of that range. I am only really willing to buy an AWD option if it increases the tow rating, so I would pay $2500 IF it brought the tow capacity closer to 4K lbs.

Ultimately, the Maverick is a PERFECT fit for my needs, and there is no real competition on the market. Therefore, I am willing to pay SOME premium - but even I have limits.

My only 2 hesitations are price and removal of more physical buttons. I'd also be lying if I didn't say Eruption Green was a MAJOR draw for me.

(Lastly, if anyone reading this hates the 2025 grille & fascia, you don't need to hate on those of us who like it. You've made your opinion clear!)

Great post, thanks for referring to the original questions/discussion points. The Maverick is a perfect fit for me too and I'm getting one either way,. Just debating AWD Hybrid (if it exists) and XLT EB FX4 4K. I think this will primarily come down to price differential and towing capacity of AWD Hybrid. I don't need to tow much weight or often, just a pop up camper few times a yr. Also need a better interior option to go FX4 route.

Eruption green sounds cool but I'd need to see it first. I'm leaning blue. Good luck!

Do you drive 5k miles a year because you have multiple vehicles? Also, do you anticipate that changing (different job, longer commute, etc.)? Is your commute more City or is it more highway/rural? I know some folks get the hybrid and find that since they like it more and it is more fuel efficient, they drive that way more than the other cars. So that might change your calculations.

As for AWD - most people do not need AWD. If you get a lot of snow, FWD w/good snow tires will beat an AWD w/all seasons any day.

Your post describes me exactly. Retired here and my Mav is a third vehicle for us. It arrived March 2023. I figured I would be putting less than 5k on it a year. I bought the Mav to be able to pick up 4x8 and other materials for planned house renovations. Two months after getting the Mav the wife and I both had some serious health issues so projects are on hold for now. Wife can't drive so I now have 3 vehicles to drive but I find myself driving the Mav more just because I enjoy it Just under 8k in the 17 months I've had it.
Also agree on the FWD. I'm retired so I don't need to go out until roads are plowed and we don't get much snow anyway. The other two vehicles are AWD also.

Sorry I see now that I worded that weirdly, but I'm trying to determine the importance of ordering day 1 vs. later in the week. As in, are my odds of getting AWD Hybrid (if it exists) diminished by waiting a few days?

Don't forget to consider the extra hybrid license fees that many states extort due to the fuel savings. In Ohio it is an extra 100.00 per year to be environmentally friendly. Nice incentive, right?

Yep, KY has a $60/year hybrid fee and $120/year EV fee. Don't be surprised if these fees go up as Hybrids/EV's become more popular and states want more revenue.

I wouldn't be surprised if a hybrid AWD, if one becomes available, is sold in loaded-to-the-gills Lariat trim only with an extra premium charge. Maybe even a new Limited package.

I have driven a 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid (the same engine in the 2024 and earlier Maverick Hybrid) I have over 230K miles and have not had one problem with the engine and maintenance has only been Oil Change/Rotate Tires every 10K miles. I have only changed the breaks at 110K so the Hybrid RIO is very good I still get over 36+mpg going 70+mph on the highway. I have plans to get the AWD Hybrid Maverick when the order banks are open.

So far this only applies to plug-in for NC but it is probably coming soon! Crazy. Guess they are desperate to make up for the gas tax somehow.

Thanks for the feedback. It's difficult to discern the true maintenance issues associated with hybrid vs the opinions of those simply opposed to change. With that being said, I am interested in hearing specific/common issues people have with AWD to factor this into ROI and total cost. Hope your Fusion keeps on rolling!! I had one (non-hybrid) for my previous work vehicle and it performed flawlessly.

Similar experience with my 2010 Fusion Hybrid with over 200K miles. And my Mav Hybrids have been trouble free.

There are probably twice as many Hybid owners on this forum as EBs so it is expected there will be more posts about Hybrid issues.
