Have a new XLT here with HVAC also turning on when Auto is set to off. Headlights always default to Auto as well. It would be nice to have things stay where they were when the truck was turned off but maybe that's not an option based on replies above and other online searches. Has anyone found a way to set these things up to stay the way they want?

I was able to change my headlight switch from Auto to "last known position (off)" using Forscan on my 2023 XLT hybrid.

BYDCM module As-Built
726-27-05
original As-Built was 0xxx-xxxx-xx
I changed it to
1xxx-xxxx-xx

On my 24 XLT, For remote start, there are settings under remote start to have the hvac set to last setting or auto, where the auto reacts to current temp and turns on ac or heat as needed. Similar settings for the heated seats and steering wheel.

Seems this should be user definable in the settings menus if you dig deep enough. You could in the earlier ones.

Also on a factory new vehicle it helps to change all the settings max to min, on to off, etc. at least once.

Some electronics need to be initialized / rebooted or at least "exercised".

A weird one in my 2022 is the under front cubby ambient lighting (where cell phone charger goes, etc.) stays on for a few weeks, then mysteriously goes off. I can turn it back on and adjust brightness in one of the menus. But just weird it does that.

There should be options in the various menus for start up state. You should be able to configure a default state and have an option to startup to last sate before you shut down. This seems like it should be pretty simple for the software engineers to do.

@phoneguyinpgh - Agreed, but after trying several suggestions, from here and other sources online, I haven't been able to find that anywhere in the menus or the more in depth owner's manual PDF. So far it seems like Forscan is only way to set some of those 'what should be included' basic parameters.

The following is directly from page 124 of my 2024 pdf copy of the manual showing how to change the settings.

Select Remote Start. 4. Select Climate Control. 5. Select Auto or Last settings. Note:If you switch the auto mode on, the system attempts to heat or cool the interior to 72°F (22°C). When you switch the vehicle on, the climate control system returns to the last used settings. Note:If you switch the last settings on, the system remembers the last used settings. Heated Seat Settings 1. Using the instrument cluster display controls on the steering wheel, select Settings. 2. Select Vehicle. 3. Select Remote Start. 4. Select Seats. 5. Select Auto or Off. Note:If you switch the heated seat settings on, the heated seats turn on during cold weather. Note:You cannot adjust the heated seat settings when you remotely start your vehicle. Heated Steering Wheel Settings 1. Using the instrument cluster display controls on the steering wheel, select Settings. 2. Select Vehicle. 3. Select Remote Start. 4. Select Seats and Wheel. 5. It seems the software was revamped from 2024 to 2025. There are no climate control settings accessible from the steering wheel. I'll have to check & see if it can be done via Forscan.

Just looked at the pdf for 2025 Maverick 2025 Ford Maverick Owner Manuals (was torn between getting a 24 or a 25) and this is on page 109 of the manual:
REMOTE START SETTINGS
1. From the settings menu, press Vehicle.
2. Press Remote Start Setup.
You can adjust the following in the remote
start settings menu:
• Enable or disable remote start.
• Climate control settings.
• Heated seat settings.
• Heated steering wheel settings.
• Remote start duration.

Yep, saw that too. But it seems those settings are only if you REMOTE START the truck. If you're sitting in the drivers seat and push the start button it goes to the default of AUTO.

Mine does it infrequently but usually if I turn it off before turning off the Mav it stays off the next time I turn on the Mav.

My 2025 XLT does the same thing - if the fan/system is off, it stays off. If the fan is on (and I start it with the start button, not the key) the A/C will always come on. Drives me nuts. I'll ask the dealer about it.

@Cougar70 - Yes, have been through the manual and all settings. In the Settings menu on the console screen I had selected Last Settings but it had no effect, none. I don't have remote start or heated seats and there is nothing under Settings in the instrument cluster menu except a towing parameter which is greyed out. In other words - useless.

Not going to download Forscan, a program from a Russian who hacked the system, and possibly expose everything on my PC and Android phone to tweak a few minor annoyances. Just doesn't seem like a good idea.

dealer told me it’s normal for ac to be on when starting. He called it ”pre-conditioning”🤷🏻‍♂️
