2024 Cactus Grey got scratched up making a turn in parking lot

Yeah the Mav has a relatively long wheelbase for its size, plus that long trunk lol.
Kinda like an old aircooled VW Bus where you literally sit at the front lol.

I will assume the bare metal scratches under the fender flairs will get touched up before the flairs go on right ?

I've driven a hundred cars/SUVs this is the first vehicle that I always have to be alert when making turns or even parking. One lapse in focus and you nudge the side pillars while parking in a tight spot. Love the truck nevertheless.

Made a sharp turn by the concrete pillar and got the rear passenger side right above the back tires a bit scratched up. Most is white streaks, just by the bottom I see the metal dots. I dont know if its wise to go to the deal to have them fix it up. Saw the cactus grey paint spray on Amazon, dont know if that would make it obvious that the truck was scratched. I will be posting the pics soon, open to suggestions or ideas. Thanks!

I don't think that's bare metal; looks more like chipped color coat with primer showing.

Personally I'd just use some touchup paint to fill in the chips and then hit it with a dual action polisher (or call a detailer). The light scratches could likely be 90%+ removed. Even doing a basic touchup job (just dabbing the paint in the chips and letting it dry) would be hard to see from 20 feet away, but I suppose it depends how perfect of a repair you're aiming for.

With a little more time, you could fill in the chips with touch up paint, wet sand the area, then buff it to a shine again and even a pro would have a hard time spotting the repair.

I noticed when I first got mine I was making extra wide turns lol but finally have it down now. To be fair I've always had sedans besides my GMC Jimmy many moons ago

What bothered me initially was the low seating position and the long, flat hood, which made it feel like I had limited visibility beyond the dashboard. Most cars and SUVs have a hood that slopes downward, so it's easier to see what's directly in front of you. The square truck bed also extends beyond what you can fully see in the mirrors, so you have to be extra careful when backing up.

I'm 5'10" and keep the driver's seat adjusted to its highest position. I've had the truck since 2024, so I've mostly gotten used to it. This time, though, I had the music blasting and made a quick turn to avoid an oncoming car—and here we are. On a side note, been eyeing a Mazda Miata that is always parked in the building parking lot. Would love to get that as my daily driver.

Ha! I prefer the squared-off hood to the one on my '13 Escape, I can see where the edges of the nose are. Same for the bed, the rear visibility on the Escape made it impossible to back up without resorting to the rear view camera. Make sure your mirrors are properly adjusted per S.A.E. recommendation, this video gives a concise explanation.


I've also had a Miata. That was a lot of fun to drive around town but not so much on the highways - - imagine the noise at speed - it's deafening. It also takes some getting used to being next to a 18-wheeler in the Miata. Would love having one as a third or fourth vehicle though.

Definitely gotta keep aware of your surroundings. I usually wait about 5 seconds once I put it in reverse. Little off topic but nice dash mat. Where did you find that?

Instead I stick convex mirrors on the side mirrors. That reduces the blind spot behind the vehicle to a V-shaped area extending about 10' behind. Anything closer than that can be seen by glancing at the backup camera or alerted by the rear proximity sensors (if equipped).

Ok, I'd be interested in getting the blind spot mirrors if, I could see how much better they make the view at 25 ft. I like pictures. That way they show where the mirrors are set.

You can't see small person or a child standing behind the truck using side mirrors only

My '24 XLT has the magnifying mirrors in the corners from the factory. Tough to see, but I blew up a pic of the truck when I spotted it on the lot last year.
