Two years ago today I purchased a XLT Maverick Hybrid, it's been a real journey since then. Lots of firsts for sure, and some that I hope are lasts. The entire process from ordering to living with this truck as my one and only vehicle has been a mixed bag. I don't have a long distance commute, just a 25-30 minute drive to work, so I'm only at a little over 15k miles.

This picture below is from within the first month, August 2022. At that point the only add-on was a backflip MX4. Added Lasfit LED's winter of 2022, not sure I'd bother doing it again. Winter of 2022 I swapped the OEM tires out for Nokina WR-G4 all weather tire, not a bad tire all around compared to the stock ones. Think I'd get CC2s, they were out of stock everywhere when I got new tires, so that was that. In March of 2023 I added Elevate rails and bed rack. Perfect for work stuff, and fun stuff.
Ford Maverick 2-Year Review with a 22 Hybrid Maverick Z6R1970

Over all driving impressions and comfort is where I will start. Driving the Maverick is pleasant for the most part, cannot say it's been bad. Not a lot of rattling other than on rough roads, some of the rattle is likely my stuff under the back seat, and some of it is plastic being plastic. Handling is good in all the weather conditions I've driven in, sunny, wet, snow, and icy, so with the right tires for the conditions, no problems at all. I used to play around with drive modes at the beginning, but haven't touched the button since the last time I took a heavy load to the dump in the winter. For a boaty SUV like vehicle the Maverick handles well, I find it better than the 2013 RAV4 Limited I had before, but not as nice as my Camry Hybrid was. Handling does change with loads, as one would expect, so you do have to be more cautious once you have 500+ pounds in the bed. I maxed out payload once, and that was interesting, just a big adjustment for braking. As for the seats, I've only ever sat in the driver seat and it's comfortable enough. I tend to get uncomfortable after sitting for over an hour period, so it's no fault of the truck once I'm past that point. I haven't heard any complaints from passengers about seat comfort.

The utility of the Maverick is by far it's best feature, I've loaded up with soil, mulch, and taken plenty of loads of green waste away. It's been great for transporting my kayak and camping gear. This past spring I add a mini tent trailer to the list and that is working out very well. Being able to do all that and averaging over 5.1L/100km (over 40MPG) overall has been great.

The so far so goods:
Unlike some people I've had no issues with the front windshield, still have the original OEM glass. So far no CV axle issues. I have had deep sleep, but I don't use the Fordpass app, I have remote start on the key fob. Since I had the last set of recall updates done in mid-June 2024 the truck has not gone into deep sleep, at least not yet and the truck gets driven 5 days a week minimum. Interior plastic is holding up fine, a few scratches, but nothing more than in any other vehicle I've owned and in the same places too. No paint issues. I scratched a little bit off of the rail behind the back window with some yard waste, but that was easily fixed. I put some protective automotive tape there, no more chance of paint loss. Most importantly the truck has never lost power, and never not started.

The only real not so goods are due to the laundry list of recalls (9), plus the customer satisfaction programs, and some minor build quality issues. The high mount brake light filled up with condensation starting last winter for example. The infotainment system still freezes up sometimes, just last week the backup camera froze the system, had to do a hard reset because it would not turn off even after turning the truck off. Hopefully no new issues come up, and no more recalls! I've had airbags done, and engine fire recall stuff (3x), along with tail lights and a bunch of other stuff, some of which were never an issue. Airbag recall was done really well, which took two days, never would have known they'd done it after. All the software stuff was done reasonably fast, first bunch took more than a day for some reason. The only real negative experience has been dealership related, but that's not really an issue with the Maverick itself.

To wrap thing up I think the Maverick has been a good vehicle to own, not trouble free by any means, but not a total nightmare either.

Thanks for the comprehensive review; I would echo that with my 2023 hybrid xlt in the snow/rust belt. Being a year behind you, so far I've had fewer recalls and bugs (never a deep sleep, no-start, or screen-freeze) after 15k mi. But similar to your experience, we've enjoyed the utility of it and have been satisfied with the purchase. Its longevity is still the great unknown.

I likewise love my 2022 XL Ecoboost. Even the recalls haven't been too horrible to deal with. The latest two (NHTSA #24V267 & 24V293) I've arranged for the Ford Mobile Service to come deal with while I'm at work. Now THAT'S service!

Still debating what my next ride will be. Leaning heavily toward reordering (opted to not take first order) a Ranger or getting another F150. The mistake my husband made in buying his was opting for the single cab. The extended cab would have been perfect for our needs.

Nice review, thank you. I've had my Tremor for one year today. My only issues have been with the battery running down to the point that my interior lights don't come on. This has happened twice, but not since last winter. I charged the battery (correctly the second time) and it's been fine. I don't drive much, about 3k miles a year, so the battery isn't constantly being maintained. I have 2 recalls yet to be completed. I'm nervous about them screwing up the truck. Other than that, it's been a great vehicle and I've really enjoyed owning it.

Owners of a 2022 Maverick Hybrid as well, along with a 2012 F-150 that does the heavy duty work. Almost 20K miles and I would echo most of what you said. Better gas mileage than the Federal standards, the recalls have not been a problem (just had 5 or 6 of them done about a month ago with zero issues), and once I replaced the defective Motorcraft 12v battery (which Ford replaced three times before with similar results) with a Diehard our dead truck issues went away except for one time when it was in a very hot garage for a period of time. As for the driver's seat, I find it more comfortable on longer trips than the F-150.

We also have had our 22 hybrid for 2 years now, and outside of the recalls and poor customer service at a few Ford garages, we like out XLT, and will be ordering a 25 Lariat when the order banks open this year. Wiill see what we are able to get for our 22 at that time.

WE got such a great deal for our 22 xlt from Bison Ford in Great Falls Mt that we drove home with out new 24 Lariat today. The extra safety features for us more mature people are great. They even transferred our snug top for us. Now for our new adventure with our new Maverick.

Just to share: I have had hardly any issues with me Hybrid 2023. Typical recalls that were handled wonderfully by the dealer coming to my home to do updates. They did replace 12v? starter battery and it was reported widely that Ford had purchased a large lot of faulty batteries and Mavericks were not the only victim of these defects.

my 22 XLT HYBRID has been trouble free except for the low speed "grabby" brakes(lasted about 6 months and just went away).Had the undershield drilled out for the possible oil seepage and thats it-Have not done any recalls but just got a letter from FORD saying I need to have them done (24S24,24C01,23C41)-not sure if I will do them but does NOT having them done invalidate your warranty?

similar build XL.
I also echo the owners similar sentiment. My vehicle has been basically bulletproof at 22,000 miles. Only differences I have avoided all recalls. I would say this truck, runs like a sewing machine.

My position on recalls is extremely frustrating to say the least.

How long was your Mav garaged before the Die Hard needed a jump?

I still have the factory installed 12v battery. As noted in my review, it's never died and the truck always starts. I do hook it up to a battery maintainer once or twice during the winter. Longest I've gone without driving was 5-7 days, and my truck is always outdoors since other family members vehicles are in the garage. My truck was built in early May, 2022. I never even mentioned in my review about that, I am one of the early Maverick owners that has the set temperature displayed on the temperature dial.

I cannot say for sure, you'd have to inquire with Ford, but I doubt not getting recalls done will invalidate the warranty. If the truck is even taken to a Ford dealer they are required to complete all safety recalls by law, so keep that in mind.

I totally forgot about the grabby brakes, one of the recall updates made that disappear in the fall of 2022.

It was only a couple of days which made it unusual. For example, this past winter it sat in the garage for 2-3 months and started right up, which is why I suspect the heat had something to do with it. I'll check it again tonight to see if the voltage is dropping. If yes I'll put the smart charger on it since it has only been getting driven short distances for awhile now; likely not enough to charge it up nicely.
