We have 2 Mavericks and both have had chipped/cracked windshields. You guys weren’t kidding these are cheap windshields. First one was a chip which I had repaired. Second one was driving on I-95 at about 4 am and heard something impact the windshield. No other vehicles near me. I can only image it was kicked up by traffic in the other direction. Did not see any damage. When we stopped for lunch came back to Maverick and saw a 14” crack. Looks like the impact was high on the top edge. Happy New Year time to call my insurance.

My wife came home 4x in ~6 weeks with a new chip in the windshield. I had the first two filled and sealed, and now am just taking my chances with the other two. Somehow we had it for over a year without a chip or crack, then...

FWIW, we've had to completely replace the windshield on our VW jetta 3x in the last 2yrs. And glass coverage through our insurance was RIDICULOUS (would increase our premium ~50%), so I'm taking my chances. I've driven for 25yrs and had never replaced a windshield previously and don't recall any other major chips or cracks.

I’ve been driving for over 40 years and never had a chip or crack. If it was a chip I would pay for it myself. But to replace the windshield will be pricey. Wish I found the chip before it became a crack.

Sometimes, you can avoid it by keeping your following distance way back from big rigs (even though it's their fault for not properly securing the rocks they are transporting) and other large cars without mudflaps.

Then sometimes, phantom rocks appear out of nowhere that are impossible to avoid.

The further back you drive, the longer gravity has a chance to bring the large rocks to the ground and not bounce up and onto your glass. Then sometimes, rocks stuck in peoples tires get dislodged and they get shot at your car.

Either way, super annoying and it seems to be much more of a big problem nowadays than it was a long time ago. Either cars are using thinner glass, or our government isn't vacuuming/street sweeping the freeways every now and then like they are supposed to.

As stated no one was around me.

I installed the AVS Bugflector II on my 2024. Only 1,200 miles on it, but hopeful it streams air over the windshield better than the stick-on flat bug shields. Used this on my Sport Trac for 9 years and never had a chip.

windshield sometimes is not a bad place to take a rock strike.

agreed on the jeep windshield, and the 6G bronco is the same. that's why I have glass protection on it. I have noticed the cost of glass specific deductibles on car insurance is going up, and the benefits going down. insurance cost is getting ridiculous. :cautious:
