Here is my partially completed mount for anchoring 2 Delta fork mounts. It will be clamped down with a single 3/8” bolt thru the board w/clamp under bed rail. It should allow me to carry my road bikes without leaving tailgate down. Just added completed pics and tailgate is up and still have 1 1/2” clearance. *added bonus. Found out I can drive into garage with bike still mounted in the bed😀

Looks good, is that synthetic decking, not that it matters that much. If it is, it may sag a bit in the hot sun; a leg in the middle on the underside might help. Good job! oh never mind, it is supported the full length by the ledge, my bad

There is going to be a 3/8x 1” strip of weatherstripping across the top of the bed in the front. There is also full pieces of pad covering the bed rail caps to keep from marring them.

I had that same setup on my dakota. In the mav I cut the board shorter and put it up against the front of the bed on the bottom. Put our bikes in at an angle and I can shut the tailgate. No straps or anchors needed.

Nice design.

Where's the clamp from?

It is part of a standard rail clamp. I ordered 4” stainless button head bolts on Amazon and the clamps were from Custom Truck Unlimited https://www.ctuusa.com/contact.html
I do have to add a piece of small rubber to cover the end of the clamp that touches the underside of the bed rail.

I have aero bars mounted on both bikes so couldn’t get the mount far enough forward if I put it at the bottom.

Very inventive! Could consider a vertical piece between the mount board and the glass. Might protect it in case of a slip attaching the bike.

I’ve been thinking about that and am looking to find a piece of 3” aluminum angle to sandwich between the board and the bike mount so I can use the same holes.

I love DIY solutions as much as the next guy, but I'd buy a hitch rack. Keeps the bed open and you don't have to remove and install the wheels twice for each outing. I know racks are expensive, so a much cheaper solution is to get a tailgate pad to throw the bikes over. Since you're obviously handy, you could even make one yourself.
