  1. 2- Bicycle Bed Mount - Any Thoughts?

Very inventive! Could consider a vertical piece between the mount board and the glass. Might protect it in case of a slip attaching the bike.
  2. DIY - Molle Panel Behind Back Seat

    Neat idea! Thanks for sharing

The fold up sides allow me to just stand up on the bed floor (I’m 5 11 although shrinking disturbingly fast). I think that is important when trying to cook, change clothes etc during bad weather or bugs. My wife doesn’t like the look folded up but does like being able to stand. I considered...

Thanks for the video links. Working with aluminum is outside my skill set. (Plywood and screws are pushing the envelope a little) I felt the sideways approach would hurt mpg too much. Good luck. Please post your progress.

Thanks. I think I will seal all cut edges with epoxy as well as the top and then paint everything with an exterior latex or acrylic paint. PMF would be better but sounds time consuming. Since this thing will live most of its life in a pile in my basement and likely be used outside on the truck...

If I decide to go forward much closer cuts, weatherstripping and possibly insulation are in order. You are so right - I am incredibly fortunate to have the time and resources to put into something so frivolous. I have to work to keep the project in perspective and not have it crowd out more...

Yes we still like to backpack but in camp grounds a little more structure and height is nice. Also in some places like National forest roads finding a good place to pitch a tent can be a hassle.

This is great! I chuckled for quite a while. Its what my wife has been predicting would happen for most of the build. Fortunately no major injuries so far.

Thanks. The overall structure seems to work. Its the finishing details and the waterproofing that I have to figure out.

Valid question. I find dealing with wet tents a hassle when you take them down. Also having a cap type structure when traveling gives lots of room for equipment in the back.

Good point. I mocked it up using plywood I had lying around. If I go forward will probably make foam panels for the extension

Hadnt thought of a fairing - good idea - I'll look into that. I'm debating whether to use PMF vs just a good exterior paint. May go with PMF on the top and paint the rest. Thanks

You are quite correct. Its the process not the outcome. Being semiretired it gives me something to puzzle over.

I’m posting a very rough prototype of a DIY camper. I hope others may find the ideas useful and, selfishly, hope some wise members will point out flaws or suggest improvements before I get too far in the build. My main criteria are minimal mpg hit, able to stand up, sleep 2 snugly, and to...
