For those who have questions and are considering an engine cover for their hybrid, I wanted to collect all the information in a single thread. This is my first contribution, hope it is helpful!
I was fortunate to find a used junkyard engine cover from a Ford Escape Hybrid for $50 plus shipping. At my request, the yard also pulled the mounting hardware which includes a ball post and a retention bolt/washer/nut.
Ford engine cover 6A949 part number
LX6Z6A949B
LX6E6A949AB
*Or* do an interchange salvage yard search for 2020-2022? Escape Hybrid engine cover
Ball Post part number
6N958 stud is AA5Z6N958A
Retention screw part number (Just need one!):
HT1 stud is W714647S450B (also need H1N nut unsure if included)
My first impression is the engine cover definitively reduces engine noise. The transition to engine power is almost imperceptible and the sound level is noticeably reduced across the rev range. The distinct growl of the Atkinson Cycle, especially in the 20-30% power range, is attenuated but not muted.
The cover is made of urethane or rubber foam and varying thicknesses between 1/2" and 1" . There are four plastic pieces molded in for the mounting points for the posts and the retention screw.
Make sure you firmly tighten the bolt post or when you loosen the nut the post will walk out tear the cover (as you can see below).
There are four mounting points.
The front mounting posts are molded into the intake runners.
You will need the hardware for the rear ball post mount and the rear retaining bolt. Sorry, I didn't grab pics of these installed. They mount here:
And here:
And a video of the engine sound comparison with and without the cover.
Cheers!
