Hey everyone,

So I have my dash cam plugged into my 12v outlet in the center. I had the maverick off and locked for an hour and I got a notification on my phone that the dash cam was still running. Went back to the truck and the outlet was still on. I was told it turns off after 15 minutes but this obviously isn’t the case with mine. Anyone know a fix? What this could be? Thanks 🙏🏻

The 12v cigarette lighter/outlet does not turn off. You may be able to modify it so it does time out in ForScan, but perhaps not, if it is hardwired/directly linked to the battery BMS and not controlled by software. Which is probably the case since you can read your battery voltage via the 12v cigarette lighter/outlet. Not a good indicator that you could mess with it from the software side of things.

Solution many people do (myself included) is to power the dash-cam from the OBDI port, with a plug that times out after a period of the vehicle being off. Mine is 5 minutes, and even turns it off after 5 minutes of me being in "park", even if the truck is still running (the OBDI must be sending a signal to the timer that starts the countdown whenever I do not have the truck in "drive"). Another solution is to buy a hard-wiring kit for your dash-cam that uses a fuse in your fuse box that DOES time out.

Pretty sure it does turn off, I have my dash cam plugged there and everytime I turn on my Mav, the camera turns on.

It might take longer than 20 mins to turn off tho.

I plugged my GPS into mine and it stayed on after I turned off the truck. But then again, so does the radio, until the door is opened. I didn't try opening the door or checking back later to see if it was still on or would eventually turn off..

I was bummed. I love my trusty old Garmin nüvi.

Gimme a Garmin any day. Portable, easy to fix (toss out the window and buy a new one) free updates.
Built in Nav is OK, but try to get it fixed when, not if, it breaks. You can buy a half dozen Garmins for one trip to the dealer with the built in unit. After a few days, they will tell you, "We don't know what's wrong with it"
Try taking that dash unit out and using it in your buddy's 15 year old jalopy, or in you boat or on your motorcycle. The Garmin will be fine.

FORScan is the answer. Your Power Port in the BCM is set from the factory at 4,500 seconds (75 minutes). With FORScan change this to the number of seconds you prefer. I changed mine to 60. I encountered this same "problem" and it's fixed now thanks to others members who told me how to fix it.

I use my power port for a video mirror. It used to shut off after about one minute. It started staying on for "forever". Why? I used to get those Ford Pass messages that my battery was low and systems were being shut down. This is why my power point only stayed on for a minute. I have since set up a conveniently to use battery charger and my truck is always charged up. I no longer get those battery messages, nor is my truck being shut down to conserve power. So I fixed one problem and unknowingly created another problem. I changed the Power Point time out in the BCM to 60 seconds. Now my truck is fully charged and my power point shuts off when I want it too. FORScan baby.
