I have a very specific reason to screw, bolt, or weld to my tailgate that I only need occasionally.

Would be neat to swap one on and off.
Kinda like winter tires.

I would deliver for 50 cents per round trip mile / $1 per one-way mile that didn't require a hotel stay for me.

I have done exactly what you've suggested. Buying the lot keeping what I needed and selling the rest. But not with something as big, bulky and heavy as tailgates.
Time + labor + Proper/Adequate Packaging cost + shipping cost = pain in the 🫏
