True, unless you're using Mud & Ruts or Sand mode. AWD doesn't disengage in those modes.
I don't have an FX4, so I don't have those modes. I just have an XLT with AWD and 4K towing.

Understood, I just didn't catch that you were only speaking for yourself when you said, " Unless you have the AWD display on, you don't know when you're using it. "

they used to put the 302 Windsor in the sport trac, wasn't that and escape chassis? fill me in( the coyote is a wide beast,it would be easier(space wise to install a hemi)
Explorer was a completely different chassis than the Escape (longitudinal BOF vs transverse unibody), and it had the 4.6L mod motor.

I didn't know I was only speaking for myself, because I don't have an FX4 and don't know its modes! :)

It had the 5.0 Windsor briefly. It used the GT40 heads, which were popular for swaps in Mustangs.

!thanks for the info. Ah ha,the boy that put a 302 Windsor in a ranger, told me wrong thanks again,my advice these 4.6 engines are immortal grab one of these if you can find one, another question how do the sizes between a sport trac and a Maverick compare? and do some special edition Mavericks have the special 3.0 Ecoboost V6?( supercar territory) I remember now the escape started with a 200 HP Mazda v6?( my brother has a 4.6 modular v8 in a f150 with close to300K on it,runs great yet( and it was tuned with a bully dog apparently-at least it has the decals)I guess it started life as the 215 hp modular, was the 24 valve as durable as the old modular(triton) now can someone please correct me,been running Nissans so long I lost out on Fords( the only recall I got on a D21 was for a tire inflation placard( mistakenly bought a Dakota once(learning curve) hope the Maverick lasts as long as the Nissans. And while the Maverick is probably not as durable as the Frontier I had,its zippier and gets at least 40-50% better gas mileage( the phone companies(local) had a hybrid escape with around 200K trouble free miles.

Windsor and Coyote are 2 very different sized engines though. The only thing the same is 5 liters.

Not in the Sport Trac configuration, though.
I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the other posts. The one I was responding to just said "Explorer," and that's also what I said.
