TBH I didn't know they had the hybrid for the F-150 yet. I checked Ford.com and they don't have any fuel mileage ratings for it yet. Has you buddy given you an indication of what kind of mileage he is seeing? Thanks.
He’s mentioned 27 mpg highway. Last week I challenged him to reduce his highway speed and he was surprised to get 33 mpg. 😂

That is impressive gas mileage. I average 20 mpg in my EcoBoost F-150, and I try to be light on the pedal. I would likely get closer to that 33 mpg. Appreciate all your replies!

I don't get why people cross shopping 50k pickups are even interested in a maverick. Seems like a recipe for disappointment.

I have a 2018 F-150 with 5.0L Coyote V-8. Gets about 18-19 around town and on level ground with no wind resistance gets 22-27 in ECO mode depending on load carried.

As for hybrid Ranger, if I get 1 I'll go with the standard gas motor until we can get those Ford EV crate motors installed easily and for a good price.

I don't think that's how ford EV platforms will work. Just looking at the lighting design shows that's that idea is never going to happen.

Just because you could spend $50K on a truck doesn't mean you should.

I went through the same process, and settled on the Mav. One must be prudent differentiating wants vs. needs, and prioritizing accordingly.

The crate motors are made specifically for retrofitting older ICE engined vehicles. There's a couple articles published on them, including the old F100 Demonstrator Ford has been showing around the country. This is a plug and play (mostly) conversion option and has nothing to do with the modern EV platforms in production or planned for the future.

That's really interesting, I have not heard of that. I wonder how it'll work in practically

GM also unveiled a complete EV conversion "kit" they will be offering to general public based on their existing Chevy Bolt architecture. There is a nice article I read showing a converted classic K5 Blazer. Should be an easy Google search to find it. Back to reason I stated Ranger would be my choice for this is the crate motors are designed for vehicles with conventionally mounted engines instead of transverse, FWD oriented like Maverick. I'll drive my Maverick (once it finally arrives) and enjoy every bit of it until I see proven future options to go straight to BEV and skip hybrid derivatives completely (y)

That's valid for sure. I'm just saying people just try to lob the maverick into mid and full-size truck comparisons and it's just not the same. The common sentiment seems to be "well the xxx is a whole lot more truck for your money" and then ignore that you'd be getting a base model cloth interior 2wd with the lamest power train with worse efficiency. Just seems disingenuous and the people doing that sort of comparisons has misplaced expectations.

Next Gen Ranger hits 23MY production in Europe. USA will see Next Gen Ranger in 24MY production.
so how will they improve my 23 rangers? Or they just wont sell new one? Rangers sells have been abysmal this year.

Actually they closed out orders in 22MY about a month ago because of the number of orders vs what they can finish produce. They will have a few changes but it's not a total refresh in 23MY. 22MY saw the Splash Packages introduced. We will see what 23MY will bring in July.

Really? Intresting, just this past April the maverick was out selling it in its first year. https://fordauthority.com/2022/05/2022-ford-maverick-handily-outsold-the-ford-ranger-in-april/

I'm sure you have better data then what we can get but 22,479 wasnt very good. Do you think they can do 31k in MY 23*? The Tacoma for 23 doesn't have much changes either so that will help even out the playing field.

I looked at new trucks for years before the Maverick was introduced, driving my’ 06 Frontier nearly 300,000 miles in the process. I consistently told dealers that I’d buy the first new pickup where I could lay a tool on the floor of the bed and reach over the side and pick it up without climbing into the bed (I’m 5’10”). My new Maverick is that truck. I don’t haul heavy loads hundreds of miles. I haul a wide variety of sometimes messy ‘stuff and things’ constantly on bad or non-existing roads and I need quick access to that stuff on short notice. But I need AC and highway speed so a ‘Gator won’t do. There hasn’t been a US built truck for two decades that served that need until now.
