Earlier this year I was driving through a rural part of Virginia to visit my daughter which is known to have speed traps and got a ticket. The speed limit frequently changes from 35 to 55 etc. on this stretch of road. At the time, my wife’s iphone was connected by wire and we were using google maps. I’m a bit of a “hyper-miler” and try not to lose momentum, but usually don’t go above 10 mph over the speed limit. I was driving for 10 - 15 minutes past where I supposedly was speeding when the cop pulled me over. It got me thinking about my location and speed data being sent to the officer. Does anyone know if this data is being sent? I know there’s GPS signal at least being received because I can see my direction (NE, SW etc.) on the dash when driving. If so, is there a way to turn off data transfer to the po-po without voiding the warranty?

I'm questioning how they were able to track me down 20 miles down the road. I suppose it could have been a traffic camera that grabbed my license plate number.

Good point about planes.
Used to see that stated on signs much more frequently.

I wondered if it was still done as often and just didn't need to be noted, or they stopped.
Of course highways heading south in Missouri to Arkansas just ripe for wide open straight roads.

They also have lines on the ground on our highway, instead of sending troopers, they just send you a 200 dollar bill in mail.

I got 99 problems but speeding tickets aint one. ive never had a ticket in my life lol. I go like 4 over max, and cruise. I keep my distance also to avoid rock chips. everyone I know is going 100mph to go everywhere, they wait for me like 10 minutes to arrive, but it isn't worth it!

If you want to turn off data transfer, pull the Telematics fuse, which powers the AT&T cellular Telematics modem. It's fuse #11 in the passenger footwell fuse box behind the big blue plastic panel above the carpet. Nothing else is powered by fuse 11 and the truck functions just fine. No nag screens or other annoyances.

Weird. I as you said you got pulled over 15 later.? What took him so long to catch you? How do they know it was you miles away from the scene of the crime? I'd fight it. I'm sure if you want ,you can request the details. Let us know what happens. Good luck.

Think this through for a second. How accurate would the data be? A good lawyer would tear that apart. When was the measuring device creating the data last calibrated? The police would have no control over that calibration to certify its accuracy. So there is no way they are using that data. More likely what happened is he observed you then decided to follow you waiting for you to slip over the speed limit. Because that is not legal. The cops can’t just follow you around waiting for you to break the law. He said he saw you speeding at a known and measured area as a reason to follow you.
However what you have from what you said is a flawed ticket. No method of speed measurement is entered in the ticket? That alone is reason to have it dismissed. They have to put something down even if it is visual observation.(which would be a valid method).

I am just guessing but I would expect that the cop had to finish giving another ticket and then had to catch up with this guy. Probably had camera picture sent to cop in his patrol car showing license plate and speed. Years ago there was a guy that killed his wife and her parents in DFW area and was arrested in his motel in Oklahoma within 2-3 hours thanks to OnStar reporting his cars position.
