honestly I agree, I worked dod and everything, and I wouldn't do this. just buy it next year, maybe better colors, prices, and maybe even cheaper.
id prob buy a 7/100k warranty if I was doing 1 year wasted personally
I can leave anytime. Contract for 1 yr.

battery tender jr.
its like one of the top rated, forever. theres fancier ones but all do the same thing. - gasp I cant believe how expensive they've gotten. I remember grabbing these $20 a piece (older ones) but same stuff other than looks.

im sure this would work just fine.

they just spent millions on R&D for 2025 facelift, and changes.
it aint going away til 2030
Didn't know that..wow. so you reckon another 5 for the maverick...

What battery tender would you suggest?
The least expensive as you just need it to maintain that 12v charge.

Maybe leave 1 or 2 gal of premium? Or just do it empty? I'm sorry this is a first for me and I'm nervous. I just want to do it right. Not have no issues when I come back from Germany
Empty, empty. Ethanol fuel will gel in about 5-6 months and becomes a real PITA to clean out.

The Maverick isn't going down in price and will only go up with each model year. It is possible that if he buys it now that he comes in below the '26 price increases, in terms of savings. So far the Maverick has shot up double digits in % on price increases each year.

Edit:

Big disclaimer that I forgot previously.

There is a lot of debater on how to store a vehicle long term when it comes to fuel. It used to be, before ethanol fuel, that you would completely fill the tank with fuel. This kept moisture from building up in the tank and being a problem later. The fuel would stay good for extended periods of time.

After the switch to ethanol fuel this became a problem. There are a lot of people who still fill the tank entirely but then put in fuel stabilizer to keep it from going bad.

I have personally stored vehicle both ways. 100%, ethanol fuel gets nasty after awhile.

Do you know the plans of ford? Are they going to continue with the maverick?
The Maverick is not going anywhere. It just got refreshed.

I don't imagine big changes coming next year. Maybe different colors, new wheels, slightly higher pricing, but no big changes.

Since you know what you want and that is a 2025 why not just let this one slide back to the dealer and then order one later in your time away rather then give up all that factory warranty along with (presumably) make payments and insurance payments on a truck that's waiting at home for you?

I know you don't want to risk a 2026 based off previous comments but you will have nearly a year of being able to order a 2025 still before order banks presumably open for 2026 and 2025 is cut off.

If you must store it I would try to find some non-oxy 91 and use that being it will have no ethanol it will store alot better then even premium 91/93 with ethanol. My concerns would be rodents during that time more then the fuel going bad however. Just recently had a friend with a 2024 have a mouse destroy several main wiring harnesses in the truck in just a weekend of the truck sitting!
I have a 2022 xlt fx4 569 a month woth equity and still under Warrenty. I like your thinking...damn. idk the job here in Germany wants me to stay big money but I want to come back to america no money no raises...tough call. I have decions to make. Germany to me is only cool for 1 yr. Not to live permanently. I only got 15 days to make a decision fml

I hear you. Heck if I was over seas so many vehicles I would be trying to bring back with me to drive instead of what we have here as options in America! lol.

Agree, nobody knows how long Ford will make the Maverick but right now it's a cash cow so not going anywhere anytime soon.
My 2 cents

walk away from the Maverick order for sure. it's not that special or difficult now to order a new one.

it is a large waste of money to pay for it, insurance and storage. I can't believe you would even consider it honestly? I'd sell any cars you currently own before leaving, too.

I have family to take care of it when I'm gone. At least start it, run it, drive down the road, fill tires up.

That's what I'm worried about, I'd hate to let it go, if they decide to make other decisions. Feels like a stale mate, damned if I do damned if I don't.

easy decision, dont do it.
I was military for years, id go away for just 2-3 months and come back to find my vehicle half destroyed half the time.

id never buy a vehicle, to leave for a year. just isn't worth it, come back, get a new vehicle w that money you made and enjoy your new shiny car that actually smells new. I was military for like 3-4 years, then I worked dod for 4-5 years.

so this is my opinion, leaving less things behind is less stress. less bills, more savings. cant say I ever thought 'man I cant wait to get back home and drive or ride this vehicles im paying for' I just enjoyed whatever I was doing when I was doing it, vehicles get it when you're back

kinda of sounds like an annoyance for them to have to baby the vehicle, id put seafoam in it, and put on tender if was me, leave it alone 100%. better than short trips and such.
