Well....... I received the following email Today 12/12/2024 from Ford executive stating that the 2025 AWD Hybrid CAN NOT be towed Flat 4 down as a TOAD behind a RV.

I'm ready to cancel my 25 Lariat order as I have no need for it if it can't be 4 down TOAD.

I received the following correspondence from my support team regarding flat towing the 2025 Maverick. Please review and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.



The 2025 Maverick Hybrid Electric Vehicle with AWD is not capable of being recreationally towed, it can only be flat towed for emergencies and is speed and distance limited. This information is located in the owner guide under Emergency Towing. At the time of the publication of the Towing Guide for 2025 it was listed as TBD for the capability of recreationally towing and referred you to the owner guide for more information.



The owner guide for the 2024 Maverick Hybrid Electric Vehicle did not specify any differences between Front Wheel Drive or All Wheel Drive HEV version and it would leave the impression that it was capable of being Recreationally towed in either configuration. The 2024 Maverick Owner Guide did explicitly indicate that the Gasoline All Wheel Drive configuration could not be flat towed. The 2024 Towing Guide listed the Maverick Hybrid Electric Vehicle as being Recreationally Towing capable with all 4 wheels on the ground.

I sent back stating I was confused as I had received a reply to a email I sent a couple of weeks ago to Dawn McKenzie who was quoted in the Ford Authority article about Flat towing AWD & FWD 2025 Maverick Hybrids.

Hi,

The Maverick Hybrid (AWD and FWD models) can be flat towed. The Owner’s Manual needs to be corrected/updated and the team has been alerted so they can make this fix.

My last email I posted is from a higher Ford Executive and He states from his "Team" NO on the AWD hybrid (And of course ICE version)on Flat 4 wheel down Recreational towing. But ..... I'm not sure about the 2025 FWD (2WD) Hybrid as he referenced back to the 2024 model year for a point of reference.

I want the Lariat which only is available in AWD for 2025. If the 2025 XLT 2wd / FWD Hybrid can like previous years be Flat 4 down towed. I Might be open to keeping it as an option. Hard for me to make a change once I have a plan.

just as a point of reference, the F-150 manual has instructions as how to to place it in both short term towing mode (car wash, tow truck) which ends automatically after 30 minutes, and flat-tow mode.

Why they wouldn't make the little truck that is more likely to want to be flat-towed do the same thing, and the same way, is beyond me. (it comes to locking the transfer case in neutral, so that the transmission doesn't spin. I presume this is the same thing the maverick does, but . . .)

The hybrid doesn't have anything like a traditional automatic transmission. It has a planetary gearset, connecting two electric motors and the ICE. No torque converter, either. Watch any youtube video on how the Prius works, same idea.

I tow my 2022. Lariat hybrid First Edition now. I’m extremely happy with it, but would like to have the tow ability of 5000 lbs on top of flat towable. Hopefully we can get a clear answer. I towed my F150 4wd crew cab platinum, but that was with a Class A. NOT ORDERING UNTIL ITS CONFIRMED

My 2024 Ranger 4x4 is not flat-towable either. Electronic transfer case like my old 2003 S-10. Glad to have mty 2023 Lariat Hybrid to tow. Ranger is just for snow and my wife likes it.

2025 Ranger 4x4 is listed as flat 4 towable. Not sure why the 2024 Ranger 4x4 was not while earlier years were also flat 4 tow approved.
