Recently I got a killer deal on some used stock XL rims with center caps and Blizzak winter tires that have 9/32 left. ($300cdn)
However the guy that had these on his Maverick ended up buying 235/55r17 for some odd reason. (1.5" smaller tire overall, which drops my clearance. )

Was thinking I could easily flip these for close to $1000 in my area, and then buy some NEW alloy's (225/65r17) with Continental VIKING CONTACT 7 ($1400cdn)

Keep the smaller originals, or sell them and buy proper sized alloy's and tires.

What would you do?

Aesthetics aside, it's "your money" and only you can say if any of the transactions are worth it in the end.

Aesthetics AND money aside, lower ground clearance is generally bad for snow, no?

Depends on how many km being driven. The tires are 5% smaller than stock which means 5% more miles on the odometer to get from point A to point B. That may be trivial or significant depending on distance traveled during the season.

I have a set of 225/60/18 Toyo Observe Snows used 1 season I'd gladly take $350 for. They are about $700 new.

If you can get $1000 for XL steelies, then do it. I saw a set on nextdoor in my area free, and it took 2 weeks for someone to take them.

27.2" diameter is tiny, it will look ridiculous even on a lowered truck, nevermind stock height.

definitely sell those for whatever you can get.

Now you know why you got a killer deal.

We've seen the opposite recently, as well.

Someone got a 'killer deal' on tires that were WAY too big for a Maverick and then shockingly they 'rubbed a little'.

$500cdn with rims, that's great! I'd buy em off you. haha

Used rims, 50% tread tires here are $700+ on steelies easy.

Just saw a set of steelies for $100 USD. Mint, with caps & lugs.

Does your XL set have TPMS sensors ? Something else you wouldn't have to buy for the 'new ' set. That's about $200 CDN.
Personally I would run the 'bargain ' set. 1 1/2" diameter is only losing 3/4" clearance.

TPMS has been a federal requirement across all passenger vehicles for almost 25 years - in the US, anyway.

Ironically, Ford (and Firestone) had a hand in bringing that to fruition... ;)
