Thinking ahead to winter as I plan to get winter tires for my 25 Mav. The plan right now will be to put the winter on the current rims (I have BAP). Looking for some thoughts as to replacement rims for summer tires. I am not a fan of pulling tires on and off rims to change them. In Nova Scotia if that matters.

Its Canada, not Arizona. Put your winter tires on steelies and your summer ones on aluminum. Salt eats aluminum badly, while steel survives far longer. Put full hubcaps on if you absolutely need to hide the steel rims. I used a cheap set from Princess Auto.

Salt and potholes is why I run steel year round. Steel is just more durable. Have yet to see any heavy equipment with alloy wheels.

The man knows what he’s talkin bout! I have steeliest and Michelin X-Ice, great here in the Great White North.

I get what you are saying but look at the next semi you pass. They have aluminum wheels.

Some southern U.S. semis do, but northern Canadian ones and real working trucks in southern Canada and in the northern U.S don't. They also don't use those flashy sheet steel bumpers that make it impossible to use tow pins and don't provide sufficient road clearance on snow-covered highways. You should note that those aluminum rims get pressure washed every day to limit the damage, followed by a wax application. I very much doubt that you're prepared to do that to your daily driver.

Every time I’ve purchased winter tires/rims from tire rack, they are narrower than the stock wheels.

I run Blizzaks.

Full disclosure: I life in Kentucky, so it’s more of an occasional ice thing.
