Both times our truck has been hit it was standing still. In at least one of the times it was a distracted driver. The second time I wouldn't know because I was in the store and they just drove off.

Edit:

I like to tell myself the second time was an uninsured Nissan that is 3 different colors, missing the front bumper (because they left it attached to the last vehicle they hit), bubbling Wal-Mart limo tint windows (which is a factor in their hitting things because they can't see), and driving on a donut spare tire.

In other words, not much I could do about it

Edit Edit:

I forgot that it doesn't have plates and has a 6 month expired temporary tag in the window.

This might help: I put a 3 flash LED to replace the brake light located on the cab. I know some drivers might find this annoying, but that's sort of the point . . . attention. In case you're one who may think more is better, it is against the law to do this to your main brake lights. Something about impersonating an emergency vehicle.
My dealer actually installs the pule brake light on every car they sell. Or tries too. I was able to omit that on my Mav. But I did look up the legality. From what I read if the dealer puts it on before you buy thr truck it's legal. But if you wanted it after you bought the vehicle it's not. I hate the damn things anyway. But found the laws not to be very clear.

They think its a bigger truck just farther away. Issue is it's not farther away and by the time they realize it, they hit.

What a serendipitous post! Just earlier today, I was looking to buy something like this because to turn into my driveway, which is off a 55mph two-lane highway (so people are going 70+), you really need the person behind to see you.

I've had MANY encounters where to car behind me fails to see me slowing down then I have to ABORT the driveway turn and gun it to avoid getting hit. I think its mostly just distracted drivers.

A lot of valid points posted. I’m just saying the small delay doesn’t help either.
Once upon a time I read a study that claimed that LED taillights had a measured impact on reducing rear end collisions (vs standard incandescent) since they go full bright faster

No I didn't go hunting for that link, sorry, but my recollection is that it made some sense.

I will admit that it's been some time and the increase of driving-but-not-paying-attention could certainly erase that advantage.

My wife noticed many people checking out the truck. For me I noticed that people are changing lanes without checking their blindspots or even signalling. I've had a few close calls and I'm only on my first week. But most likely it's just due to distracted driver and I think I see it more because I'm more aware with the new truck.

So all, I was messing around in the garage and upon driving out noticed something.
When I hit the brake pedal the brake lights come on but after a bit of a delay. Also when letting off the pedal the lights stay on for a bit as well. Saw this in the mirror and reflections in the garage.
My theory is that when you step on the brake the signal has to be sent to the bcm, processed as pedal stepped on then sends signal to lights to turn them on.
It might be happening fast but maybe not fast enough to keep us from being tagged from the back.
Just my assessment and theory. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Check for yourselves, see what you think. I’m an old school driver and used to just hitting the pedal, closing the circuit and boom lights come on. Too much tech sometimes is too much.
Cell phones. Driver inattention. Drivers eating in vehicle. Terrible drivers.
My theory.
