Between ordering '25 Lariat AWD Hybrid vs. '24 Lariat Hybrid at the dealer

Are the '25s available? The dealer here in San Diego seems to have found what I want, in a 2024 model, but I'm seeing the '25s on YouTube videos and that AWD Lariat Hybrid with the large dash screen looks pretty good. Obviously if I ask him he'll try to convince me that the '24 he's found for me is way better, cheaper, the '25s will take a year and a half to arrive, etc., etc. Thank you for your comments.

You can not get a hybrid with AWD in 2024. It's only available in the 2025 model year. I guess it depends what you want. If you want a hybrid with the advantage and extra cost for AWD you have no choice to buy the 2025 model year. Yes it's going to be more money out of pocket, you will be charged for the new model year and the AWD system. Again I remind you that the AWD in the hybrid is not available in the 2024 model year. Even though it's more money it's irrelevant because it sounds like your not interested in just FWD. Also the extra cost is justifiable consider your paying for AWD system and a year newer model year.

If you plan to tow, get the 25 Maverick! The 24 Maverick hybrid is rated 2000 pounds and the 25 hybrid AWD is rated 4000 pounds for towing.

25s are available to order but don't start getting built until November 11th. Order one now and you should get it around late winter early spring.

If you can wait get the 25, not only you'll have more toys (like 360 camera) but also the resale value is gonna be way better specifically if you get the hybrid AWD vs the 2024 model hybrid.

Yes, I'm aware the '25 Hybrid can be had with AWD vs. '24 Hybrid which is only FWD (and supposedly AWD results in only a small MPG loss - the AWD only activates when needed, and there is no way to lock it into either 2 vs 4 WD, which seems strange - from what I saw on a YouTube video).
The dealer replied to my email and said that they "have allocations available now to pre order them. I believe they were saying April. I will double check for you on Monday with my ordering manager too see what the wait time is."

You cannot lock it into 2 wd.

Because of the 6 week quality hold, seems the first ones will arrive late January.
The first 3 weeks of production are already scheduled. So any new orders would be at least a December build. There are currently some unscheduled orders, but it really depends on whether your dealer has some unscheduled orders and when/what their allocations are. April sounds realistic.

Only you can decide how important AWD, the new tech, new front end and higher price are to you.

I'm in San Diego. If you decide to go for a '24 hybrid shop around for discounts. I think Poway Ford advertised $500 discounts. You can do better.

Go to the Ford.com website, build what you want, then see who has inventory using the "inventory" feature.

San Diego is a terrible new car market for the consumer. I do my shopping online as I wrote above and end up purchasing out of the area b/c SD stealers are terrible to negotiate with. In 2022, my 22 Mav EB came from a dealer in Riverside as my local dealer slapped an ADM of $10k on Mav's and Fritts Ford in Riverside had an additional dealer markup of $1800 on what I wanted.

Rather than run all over town, spot what you want and deal with the "internet sales dept". Be sure to demand an itemized list of all items that will be added to the price and get an out the door price before you set foot on the lot. You can negotiate online. Print it out so you have it with you. Be prepared to walk away if they play fast and loose. Or lie or get you to come in under false pretenses.

Line up financing in advance. Try a credit union. If you throw a trade into the equation you are asking for trouble. Unless you are a finance person, you can't juggle all the number they throw at you. Try to sell your used car yourself. Allow 30 days of advertising and responding to consignment offers etc.

If you don't want AWD, then a 2024 may be a better option for you. They haven't built any 2025's yet, so you won't see any videos on 2025's. Next, you will not have to wait 18 months for a 2025. I would start looking for another dealer to do business with. (Even outer state) Grainger!

I would definitely wait for the 25 for the simple fact that you're getting a hybrid with all-wheel drive that's the only thing that I'm disappointed with on the 24 lariat that I have I wish it had all-wheel drive in the hybrid model

Whatever you think you will do, order a 25 the way you want it anyway. There are dealers like mine in Texas that do not require a down payment and you are NOT obligated to take it when it comes in.

Therefore it is a no risk order. There are disreputable dealers that cannot be trusted to do what you want them to do. I have two dealers close by that I can trust, but another one has proven to be unethical. For example, they ordered one with my ID and did not have my permission. Then Ford thanked me for the order I didn’t place. I ordered one each from two dealers and up front they were ok with it because it gave them another Maverick to sell if I didn’t buy it.
