New "used" Owner. Lust bought a 24 Mav Lariat. Love the truck. Curious if anyone has given thoughts about putting a kill switch/toggle on the tele-matics module? I have heard in the past Ford is very loose with data it collects from us. An acquaintance told me they sell ALL info to lexusnexus! Not good. I have read that you can pull "fuse 11" and that disables TM. I was thinking I may want to use some of the features on Ford App. Adding a little "kill" switch might be an idea. Thoughts?

Under what circumstances would you decide to use the kill switch and likewise not use it?

I was thinking that it would be mostly OFF. Hit the toggle when I want to use the app to remote start. Use it for firmware updates etc. My friend said that she works or a large national Ins Co. They are using it to deny new cust. It transmit a ton of client data including lane control, collision avoidance stc.

Surely that would void your warranty.

If I was ever concerned about about my truck data being tracked, there probably will already have been an EMP that blacked out local communications (and gas stations) anyway.

If you have to walk over to toggle it on then why bother remote start?

Pretty sure the truck functions fine if you just pull the fuse for it.

It would mostly be in the OFF position. I was thinking if I wanted to use remote start on a chilly morning, just hit the toggle...bobs your uncle

You can turn off insurance data in the communication/network settings. I have that, location data and automatic updates turned off, and all the app functions work fine.

Well that's nice to know. I was hesitant to sign up with the app. Thanks for the heads up

You're welcome @trjmail. Here's a pic of the settings at Settings>FordPass Connect>Connectivity Settings on your touchscreen. Or, at least this is how it appears on XL and XLT models:

That's like fixing a leaky pipe during a 100 year flood.

That’s the same reason why I never bring my phone in my Maverick. If I brought my phone, I could be tracked. They would know if I’m speeding, if I’m texting and driving, if I’m driving erratically, what businesses I frequent, who I stalk, etc. etc. I know I could just get a 1990’s phone to solve that problem, but then I wouldn’t be able to send encrypted messages through Signal and Telegram to the other members of my terror cell.

Pretty soon with the combined advancements in technology paired with increasing paranoia, some folks will have to start crafting their very own tin foil hats.
