Hard stop when coasting downhill to a stop. Transmission issue?

Okay so this is hard to describe but I feel like the issue is getting worse. Every once in a while when I coast to a stop the car feels like it lurches forward harder than normal and then stops. I'm guessing it is when the car switches over to electric and the brakes engage. It just seems to keep getting more and more aggressive. I hope it is not a major issue because mine is a 23 hybrid with 57k miles and the warranty is done at 60k miles for the powertrain. I drive a ton for work. Anyone else having this issue?

Seems like on my 2022 there was a grabby brake recall. Have you had recalls done?

I don't believe that was a recall with mine but maybe it is.

Has the dealer looked at it and what did they determine or diagnose?

Getting close to the end of the powertrain warranty I would definitely get into a dealer now.

I don't remember the grabbing brakes to be an actual recall. I am fairly certain it is just a software update they offer free of charge if you have the problem.

Your transmission warranty is part of the hybrid specific warranty, 8 years or 100,000 miles.

Didn't know it was part of the 100k warranty. Good to know. This issue makes me nervous as hell coming from a 4Runner that I never even thought about it breaking. 1st Ford and everything has been good so far.

Mine does the same thing although I noticed my wife's Prius also does it albeit not nearly as dramatic.

From what I can tell it has to do with the switchover from gas to electric mode while under breaking at specific lower speeds.

It's not the grabby break recall issue everyone else is mentioning.

This power train has a proven history of good reliability so I am not super concerned.

Just put it in Slippery Mode. Stops the grabby brakes, stops the jackrabbit starts, and gives the best gas mileage.

Didn't know it was part of the 100k warranty. Good to know. This issue makes me nervous as hell coming from a 4Runner that I never even thought about it breaking. 1st Ford and everything has been good so far.

FWIW, this most likely is not mechanical at all. The Maverick hybrid transmission has very few moving parts - like maybe 12 total? (Seriously! It is very clever.) Very reliable for that reason. It's extremely similar to a Prius transmission, and there's a reason so many taxis are Priuses.
Probably what you're experiencing is just the software being not perfectly tuned. My guess is that one of the many sensors gives a slightly wonky response at a particular temperature/ humidity.

Just be careful if you do. Maybe take it to a deserted road the first time until you understand how Slippery mode responds. I tried it once nearly rear ended the car in front of me as it also makes the brakes less responsive.

If I document a powertrain concern at 57k 58k 59k miles but the dealership says "could not replicate / could not verify" and then the "problem" gets worse and becomes apparent to them undeniably at 62k miles.... is that still a warranted repair?

Check and see if you have the hill holder switch on. If I remember correctly it is right next to the Eco switch in the console. I have accidentally activated mine before and the symptoms you describe sound similar.

Thays my main fear because this is kind of hard to replicate. They won't find anything and then at 62k miles it goes out and I'm stuck with a massive repair.
