Hi all,
A neighbor’s dog jumped on my driver side door and left some light scratches. Anyone have any luck with scratch remover products? Before you recommend I ask the neighbor to cover the cost of fixing it, it is a homeless guy and his dog is the coolest ever so no hard feelings.

light doggy scratches should buff out, by some fine grade polish and try it by hand.

2 step correction with a cut compound and polish with appropriate pads on a DA random orbital machine. Properly clean first of course. If its really bad you can wet sand with a kit designed for car paint (then compound and polish).

You buy the product but have him do the work

Depending on how deep the scratches are, compound lightly with an orbital buffer then polish and wax. All it takes is a little elbow grease.

About a month after I got my mav, I accidentally dropped some gum and it got stuck on the outside of the driver's door. Didn't notice and the hot august sun melted and dried it into a thick, sticky glue that nothing short of a green scrubbie pad could get off. Left a huge streak of scratches all down the door and I'm lucky it didn't expose the primer.

An hour with the buffer, back and forth with some compound and polish and you would never know it's there.

My wife's forester on the other hand has deep scratches that I am at a loss to remove. Compound and polish did nothing. I think it will need some wet sanding with 800 grit sandpaper, then work up to 3000 grit then compound and polish. It will work, but the clear coat might be history if I bother. She isn't complaining so maybe I should let sleeping dogs lie. :sneaky:

Thanks for sharing!!! I scratched my 99 Dodge Ram without batting an eye but I would like to keep this thing new for a bit longer. I can’t believe you got that gum off!

Nothing dissolves gum, at least nothing that won't also dissolve the paint and as we know mav paint aint exactly thick. IIRC I soaked the scrubbie in vegetable oil to de-stickify the gum. It sort of worked. I just about crapped when I saw how bad the paint got scratched. Still amazes me I was able to buff it out.

Pro tip: don't stick gum to the paint of your mav then let it bake in the hot sun all day, particularly if it's black. 😭

Nobody touches the Maverick.
LOL, yeah but the dog did!

I just bet the dog was glad to see you. Still a bummer, hope you get the scratches out. How about a before and after pictures. Besides describing what you used or did to get the results. Hopefully it may help someone else with a similar scenario. Dogs get excited and dogs will be dogs.

Thanks! Car and Driver recommended this brand.
Having 2 sons with bikes and scooters, I removed more than my share of scratches due to carelessness with handle bars running into car panels over the years.
