Ford needs to bring back the column shifter and use that space for either more storage, or a cool removable center console that can be customized.

Their marketing can go nuts talking about it along with the FITS system and the bed features.
My FIRST Truck was a 1977 F-100, "Bahama Blue" in color.
Ford Maverick I Hate the Stupid Dial Shifter: Now With Poll 1977 F100

(not my truck...)
It came with the 300 cu.in. 6-cyl. inline with a "Three-on-the-Tree" column shifter.
And had the "Bench Seat"..
It was this Truck, that I learn how to drive "STICK".. :ROFLMAO:

But the thing is: I can’t maintain an automatic transmission. I can maintain a manual.
Fair point on people not knowing. Today’s manuals are quite easy to drive in comparison to those of old. The shifters are really smooth, and past first gear you barely need the clutch depressed.
I was in the market for a new truck in 2016 to replace my aging 94 Ranger with 2.3L/5MT. I plugged in a 2017 Tacoma on TrueCar with a 2.7L and 5MT and was shocked it came out to $24,000 as a Utility model. I printed it out and took it to my local dealer mainly to see if they had a MT Taco on the lot to test drive. to make sure I liked the ergos for me.

An Iranian salesman approached me. I do not know how an Iranian did not know what a MT vehicle was but he did not. I said it all ways I could imagine. "Manual transmission, stick-shift, 3 pedals in the floor" but that idiot could not understand what I meant. I asked for someone else and they told me they did not have a MT truck but would price match me.

So I did the deal. When I went to pick up my new truck I ended up with my idiot salesman. He asked me (I'm guessing he tried to start my new truck) if I knew you had to have the clutch pedal pushed down to start it. I said yes, that all have had that feature since the 1980s.

I wasn't even going to trade my Ranger and was in my wife's car but they asked about it and offered me good money on it sight unseen. I said OK and went and got it. Brought it back and it was raining. Idiot salesman said he had to check it out to make sure everything was as I had said so we went out. He gets in and I'm locked out standing in the rain.

I see him fiddling with the key and struggling and I start beating on the window to open my door. As soon as I get in he says "The key broke off in the ignition" That fool didn't know about the button you had to push down to rotate the key back and take it out and broke the key off before I could get in the truck. Man ,oh man I was hot. All I could think was this fool messed up my truck I'd been driving since 1995 then I realized it was not mine. I told him "It's yours now, not my problem you don't know how to take a key out of the ignition"

Still gets me red just thinking about it lol.

My Tacoma has the 4WD knob on the dash an it is exactly like the HVAC knob and a little to the left of it. About once a year I grab that thing thinking it's the HVAC fan knob and twist it into 4WD before realizing it's the wrong knob.

Usually when the windshield is fogged and you're trying to clear it in a hurry. There are a bunch of threads on TacomaWold about it that mirror this one.
I'd be all for it being on the dash with a completely different knob than the radio one quite a bit away from it.
Yeah just the knob it is would work in a better spot. They should have switched the cubby to the left side and put it there.

I think they should have put it way down in the bottom of the console bin so that frustrated drivers doin' 55 out in Podunk don't accidentally slap it around.

Maybe even in the glovebox or the bed cubbies.

Yup, it's the only thing on the truck I can't stand either.

I don't see what 'space' it is saving. There's a couple of inches needlessly spent on the 'suggestion box slot' that could have easily been given over to a 'real' shifter.

It would be interesting, if Ford had offered the Maverick with either a dial or stick shifter (with no cost difference), which one customers would have opted for more. Alias, we will never know because the designers have spoken . . . all hail the Designers.
there's also never going to be an option for a CD player....

Oh yeah, WRT the poll you can choose 2 votes so if you hate it and aren't wearing pants you can choose both.

If you like the shifter I know you are wearing pants ha, ha.

Just to be clear. I am at home laying in bed, it would be weird if I was wearing pants in these circumstances.
And don't blame me you are the one asking about pants.

Those were really good trucks. Strong , very reliable.had a column shifter not a dial shifter.
But Used too much gas and did not come with android auto.

Someone needs to make a retro styled car with a CD player.

For all fords claims of modularity and customizability of the Maverick ford really blew it, there should have been a blank spot in the dash for a single din radio. The XL owners would go crazy adding things.
