Looking for a set of racks to haul my 11.5’ kayak on my maverick. Probably will haul two of them at some point. What’s everyone’s go-to racks for this for the Maverick? I have a gator tri-fold tonneau I’d like to still use so I’m thinking roof racks. Are they just as affordable and easy to install as bed racks?

I have a homemade rack that fits into my hitch and I'm about to buy a roof rack. I've been using those foam blocks.

Ford would have been smart to have either actual roof side rails already installed (leave the crossbars as accessories depending on need) OR have 4 hidden mounts (how Porsche does it on their 911s) that you press a flap to find the mounting location for the screws for the cross rails they offer. Having a roof rack on these seemed like a no brainer. The old Sport Trac Explorers had them and everyone loved it. Would have been the perfect solution for things.

I have canoes and I personally prefer using one roof rack bar with one bed rack bar on small pickups. That setup centers them over the vehicle much better, but there is the antenna to contend with.

This would be my recommendation too If kayaks were the only thing you haul (casually).

If you feel that you would use it enough, I love having a full (bed/roof) rack. I personally like the Xtrusion Overland racks (although I have not priced since I had a setup already). While I don’t have an Xtrusion Overland rack, I do have a full, home built roof rack made of t-slotted extrusion and love the versatility of easily adapting to haul whatever I want.

I have a similar tri-fold tonneau as you do and was able to secure both my Loon 11' and Aruba 10' under the tonneau while waiting for my Elevate rack to show up.

Haven’t purchased yet, but I’m leaning toward the extension that goes in the receiver with the T support. But I have a Leer tonneau which won’t allow for any rack system and don’t want a roof rack.

There are several out there including one from Ford. I need to occasionally haul two 10’ kayaks.
————————————//———————————

After seeing pics & posts from other kayakers, and wanting to finally go kayaking, test fit my 2 10’ with no added supports. Fit great. 3 ratchet straps, 1 on each nose at front & 1 rear hold down for the top one. Solid & my tonneau still closed.

With the Elevate rack, I can haul both kayaks, canoe, and gear (strapped down on tonneau deck).

I'm happy with the one I bought from Harbor Freight ($60) although I've only used it with lumber.

Here’s my Yakima Overhaul HD setup on my Ranger. I’ll use the same setup on my Maverick.

ok this is exactly what I’m looking for! What’s the price for one of these for a maverick? And are they made specifically for a maverick or will they just fit any truck?

They are universal fit. New about $1,200. I bought mine used on Craigslist for $700. I’ll be installing these on my Mav soon. I also attach ski racks to them. They are easy to remove and reinstall once they are setup.

Whatever you do-secure them properly. Saturday my wife and I were on I-5 north near Mt. Vernon, WA. passing a vehicle with a kayak on the roof. Suddenly the kayak flew off the roof and hit the freeway and then my right front tire. I think the tire pushed it away from my Maverick and it then went off behind me into more traffic.
Not a scratch on my pickup. We are so lucky it was not airborne and hit the windshield.

Scary.
