Lobo - To Turbofan or Not To Turbofan?

When you order your Lobo, will you keep the Turbofan wheels or pick the optional wheels?

Didn’t see this yet, so figured I’d start a poll.

For me, I’m on the fence.
At first I hated the Turbofan wheels. Now I hate them less. Since they are model specific, wondering if a mistake to not get them?

Not sure if they would minimize brake dust or not; the dust on my ‘22 Lariat hasn’t been that bad.

Also wondering about what happens when tires are rotated? Dropping a lug might be prone to cause more damage to the Turbofan and not as easy to fix.

And with the bigger brakes, wouldn’t it be nice to see them?

I personally like them, I wouldn't get them over my current wheels but 5x108 is a weird size so any new wheel options in the 19" range is a good thing.

I like the look. Dying to figure out what graphic to add to the wheel though to make them my own.

I'm going with the $100 option for the 19" black aluminum wheel even though I don't like black wheels, at all. I just hate the turbofan style and would definitely sell it, but maybe I can live with these other wheels.

My current Mav uses a 255/55-18 summer tire (Continental Sportcontact 3) on factory 18s. If I'm trading it in (because that gives me a sales tax incentive), I might try to convince the dealership to let me swap those wheels and tires with the stock Lobo wheels.

I am going to autocross it for fun - not really intending to get back into the sport with an eye for going to Nationals - and tire availability is going to determine if I keep the 19" wheels or sell them.

I'm searching right now for good 19" summer tire options. There isn't jack for 18s that are tall enough to use on a Maverick at/near stock ride height. It looks like 245/50-19 might be a good option:

I’ve have never been a fan of black wheels either. I’m more of a chrome person.

My current thoughts are (and they could easily change): if I’m going to pay extra for a specialty trim (Lobo is $4k more than a Lariat with 4K tow & w/o moonroof), and that trim has a trim specific wheel, shouldn’t I get that?
When I look at the option wheel, I kind of see ‘same wheel as the others’; and reminds me why I don’t like black wheels.
But maybe this is vehicle color specific, I am getting Velocity Blue.

Still on the fence.

the issue I have with black wheels is that you lose the ability to see details in the wheel unless you're very close, like inside 5'. (maybe inside 3 feet even.) they just become a black blob.

gunmetal grey or anthracite is better, like the stock XLT wheel.

I generally don't like 19" wheels because of ride quality and tire cost compared to 18s, but in this case, there sure looks like much better tire availability. if you're lower maybe a 255/45-19 is better, similar amount of those to pick from. I wouldn't expect a 265 to fit without spacers or aftermarket wheels, but that's just guessing based on my experience with MY22-24.

My too.

Avoided a package on one of my wife’s prior Escapes because it meant we would get 19s. The Escape went to 19s on their higher trims of late, if I recall correctly.

Was glad my ‘22 Mav had 18s.

But even the ‘25 Lariat is on 19s, so kind of no choice (at least me).
Seems someone as decided to make 19 the new ‘standard’ tire size, after it being 18 for so long.

The "Turbofan" are multipurpose/ dual use ... when you go camping, you take them off and use them as a "WOK" for stir fry cooking 😄

Looking close at the Turbofan, it kind of looks like the slotted area comes away from the rim (i.e. outer part of the dish is raised). Need to find a good straight on shot.

Not buying. But if I was, I'd be inclined to get the Turbofan and get them dipped.
