I have a 22 hybrid maverick with ~ 27,000. I was driving back home from out of town and I had already driven for a good two and a half hours. I was passing an 18 wheeler when suddenly my whole truck turned off. The dash, infotainment screen all black. I tried to turn on the hazards but nothing came on. The steering wheel was stiff and I was pressing the brakes as hard as I could but we were barely slowing down. I coasted across the right lane and into the shoulder/grass and finally came to a stop.

I turned the truck off and on and a whole bunch of warnings and lights popped up. I turned it off again and when I turned it back on it was like everything was back to normal.

I drove the rest of the way home ~ 50 mph. The truck felt awkward when switching from gas to electric and shook a bit when coming to stops. I will be calling the service dept tomorrow.

When I first bought the truck I had to have the clutch damper replaced and it was in the shop for a good month with ~10K miles. Now with this happening I will definitely be trading in this vehicle. I love this thing to death and was honestly thinking about upgrading to a tremor before this. Even if they find the issue and fix it I'm not sure I will ever feel safe driving this after what I just experienced.

You will probably only get around 24-25.5 MPG with the Tremor. But you will love it.

I had an engine power loss too, to just electric only. Middle of an intersection turning left across oncoming traffic.
Not fun.

the latest is last week, no brakes coming out of my garage. Almost hit my neighbours car. Needs a brake booster.

I love my mav but all the recalls, tsb, and issues - I simply have to get rid of it before warranty is up. (22 hybrid)

Hey there. Can you send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage? I would like to take a closer look at your Maverick's loss of power issue.

Do you actually think anyone there is listening? Here? Once they see so many people here fooling around with programming on Forscan they are TUNED OUT.

All that being said that situation is one scary one, thank goodness the OP was able to get over the lanes to a safe space. Not certain I'd be happy unless they positively found out the issue.

Perhaps all this "drive by wire" nonsense is not such a good idea. When a computer can endanger your life by shutting your vehicle down for no apparent reason while travelling 70+ MPH on the freeway, something is terribly wrong.

Imagine this happening while you have an 18 wheeler on your tail. Your car suddenly "turns off", the truck rear-ends you and regardless of who's assigned fault at the scene of the accident, you're just as wrecked or just as dead.

Maybe I'm being over-dramatic here but based on what I've been reading on this "issue", while it may be exceedingly rare, it should not happen.

Are you up to date on all the recalls and when did you get them done?

I keep reading of stories like that. I’m glad you’re okay and made it home but it makes me glad I have the EB 2.0L. Hope they fix whatever is wrong..

Be sure to report it to the national highway transportation safety administrations -Ford definitely deserves a smack down for the crappy quality these trucks have been giving us especially you hybrid owners.. I have a 22 eco-boost that has had four recalls in a year and a half.

I had a similar event with my eco-boost 22 Maverick back in January of this year. I took mine to the dealer where they cleared the codes and drove it around to see if they could trigger another fault. Spoiler alert… they couldn’t. So they gave it back to me and i drove it for another month before it locked up again about a month after getting it back. This breakdown locked up the entire truck and had to have it towed to the dealership. The dealer replaced my PCM this time and road tested. I got my Mav back and drove it for another month and then the entire network the the PCM and BCM went down and the truck lost power again. Luckily, i was able to limp it back to my house and then to the dealer that afternoon. The dealer researched all the codes that appeared, cleared them and gave it back to me.
I recently did all the recall repairs and since then my Maverick has driven differently (in a good way). I haven’t taken it out on any long trips… but that’s coming soon… however, the small trips have went well. Fingers crossed that it’s fixed now for good… one more time and my Maverick is going away.
