Very concerning that can even be engaged during motion, that's a recipe for disaster.
Or a way to to save a life when a throttle sticks or a way to prevent a crash when training a new driver.
Never owned a manual I assume?

Happened to me going up the Continental Divide on a snowy day. Was going for slippery mode and clumsily bumped the shifter. A vehicle was approaching from behind as I was losing momentum. Caught it just in time. Unnerving as hell.

Yeah, Ford should design the dial with more resistance to movement when in position.
Nope, no issues. I'm not a fan of the dial shifter, but I've had no issues with bumping it.
I have had it happen two times now. It is something Ford needs to correct.

Color me confused 🤔.

Not sure what driving a manual has to do w/ the situation, but.. yes I've owned many " manuals " .

The point being a "manual" or traditional automatic transmission doesn't have the ability to change gear by simply rubbing against the selector. You have DILERBALETY select the gear.

I may just be clumsy, but does anyone else have issues which accidentally bumping the shifter dial and it going into neutral while driving. I have done this several times when reaching for a drink or something out of the console in front of the shifter. I like the dial shifter but think it should have some kind of catch for each position. Creates the potential for an accident.
They need to go back to the shift lever! I personally don’t want it.

Never accidentally bumped it, not quite sure how one would (like I get that it's happened, but I'm still puzzling it out).

The only problem I had was for the first week with the truck I kept reaching for a phantom gear shift lever and grasping at air. 😆

Nope, none. What happened? Did the truck have an issue being 'bumped' into neutral?

In my case some newbie error could be involved. The loosey-goosey nature of the shifter sure didn't help any! I was new to the truck and still figuring it out. It was stormy, and a stressful situation. I plain made a bad reach and bumped the dial into N. I was surprised that could happen at all, TBH.

Someone should 3-D print some type of collar to put on the shift knob that would give it some clicky resistance
Or they need to modify the knob so you have to pull up on it slightly to get it to move to a different position

It’s really just an electric switch. I’ve left my vehicle in drive accidentally and shut it off. When you start it back up it’s magically in park again.

You can bump current automatic shifters into neutral just fine without having to apply brakes.

One just needs to have a "cool attitude" while utilizing the knob. Kinda like a certain actor in his Mercury SUV commercial....................just stare at the knob for awhile like its something weird...............then gently place your fingers on it and turn it.
