Haven't even made it to 2 months ownership and this windshield chip / crack happens

Driving home yesterday on intestate 5 just outside the city limits of Redding heading home from a fathers day weekend at our daughters house while driving down the interstate around 70 mph we heard a huge bang / thud smack / pop sound from which seamed to have come from instrument cluster area of the dash, the truck all seamed ok nothing stopped working the dash didn't feel loose? We wondered what in the hell it was so I was going to just pull over and decided to just take the next exit to check it out and gas up...
Got out walked up to the front of the truck and looked at the windshield there it was....

Just below my line of sight in the black area of the windshield...
Needless to say you can't fix that one so now we have to have our windshield replaced already on the horn getting quotes...

That really sucks. Do you have a hood deflector? I got two chips in my first two months of ownership and none in the 28 months of having the deflector. Could just be coincidence though.

Yea that stinks. I just got my first rock chip on mine at 500 miles.
Safelite did their thing on it, seems to be holding so far.
Why can they not repair that spot?

By the way, I had just installed a hood protector, I think they just keep the front of the hood from getting chipped/bug splats.

You're lucky you made it that long I remember when I first bought my 2000 Silverado LT brand new I think I had it three days before I had a rock jump out of the back of a dump truck and shatter the windshield.

With today's lack of road maintenance dump trucks on the road and 18 wheelers with flatbeds unwilling to clean rocks and debris from their trailer I'm not surprised I'm more surprised you made it that long.

Safelite can definitely repair that I had one the size of a baseball on my 07 H3 and they were able to repair it and make it nearly impossible to see. I guess it all depends on the technician they send.

Well the same thing happened to me on the 405 by LAX. Windshield replaced.

I had the same sort of thing happen to my 2017 in the first month of ownership. I'e had to replace windshields on at least 5 vehicles since my 1998 Escort. I blame the tread patterns on tires for catching and holding rocks until they are rolling at highway speed and centrifugal force takes over.

No I don’t have never seen a real use for them other than keeping the bugs off the area they cover up…
Actually got my first rock chip in the new Maverick on the way home from the dealership wasn’t even 2 miles away from them…

Safelight says no way to repair as they cannot get behind it to heat up the area so I’m SOL on that one it’s leave it as is until replacemen…

Needless to say you can't fix that one so now we have to have our windshield replaced already on the horn getting quotes...

I believe ford will replace the windshield through the warranty within the first year. Check your paper work.

This is why you should carry comprehensive.

Had a rock hit just where the mirror assembly sits against the windshield. Right at the line. Big cat eye and two cracks running in opposite directions. Forget how much was charged to the insurance but no out of pocket cost to me.

I once saw a rock slug forward from my passenger front tire and curve up and hit my windshield at about 60 mph. Small impact point but no crack.

Most of mine happen on freeways going the same direction. Only one time did I have a vehicle throw a stone coming past me on a two-lane. So, generally, I try to stay back from other vehicles .. .especially if they can't keep it between the lines.

Mine happened last August, $1,500.00 latter lol. Best / Worst part, 4 day after replacement I got another one. I'll wait for a ticket and then replace the windshield this time. Too damn expensive.

comprehensive would have been so much cheaper than one windshield let alone two windshields.
