Recently we purchased a Lariat with a Tonneau hard rollup box cover and we noticed it was leaking slightly by the tailgate. I understand this is a common problem. Any suggested fix would be appreciated. Thx.

Who's the manufacturer? You might want to contact them to see what they say.

I remember a discussion on the F-150 forum a few years ago concerning water getting in the bed (not a lot of water, but still) and it was noted that there was some ingress along the bottom of the tailgate that needed to be addressed. It didn't leak in when parked, but when driving, some water would apparently get splashed up there in a way where it could leak into the bed area.

Might be the case with the Maverick too.

Yes mine also, I just keep plastic bins in back for storage...
👍 Deb,
I have a hard cover and do the same.
I've had bed covers for more than 35 years. I do not expect them to be watertight/waterproof.
It is a truck bed.
Be safe.

Trying to keep the powder dry.

They ALL leak at the tailgate. There is too much of a gap between the tailgate and the bed. It's Fords bad design, not the cover. You can buy some tailgate seal and that will help.

Some manufacturers make a one-piece reinforced fiberglass bed cover that rolls over the sides and the back making it pretty much waterproof. You may get a little water up at the front where the hinges are.
Usually painted to the color of the truck they're very nice they're very expensive they're very heavy and they are a pain in the butt to use.
If you want real waterproof cover, these work. Down side is, when you want to open the tailgate you have to unlock the bed cover and raise it, in order to open your tailgate. PITA
These are one of the most secure bed covers you can get.

Good luck

Thx for your response. Would I buy this tail gate seal at an automotive store or is this something I could buy at most stores carrying hardware supplies? Have you ever tried just applying weather stripping by the tail gate?

There was a post on this forum and i remember a youtube vid on this subject. Adhesive-backed weatherstrip would, but you have to place it in the right spot. (I am work so cant do a search. Right now.. sorry)

have had the covers that go over the side, I don't like that look and besides when snow gets on them, I can't lift it up, too heavy!! I like the look of the Ford roll up, and did expect it would leak..I just take precautions and if I don't want something to get wet I put it in the back seat..

A company called ESI (Extruded Solutions) makes a tailgate seal kit specifically for the Maverick.
