Anyone else with the Ford hard tri-fold tonneau cover getting water in the bed. Or any of the tonneau covers. Is this normal?

I just ordered the hard roll up one. So we shall see. I've heard others say that none of them are perfectly waterproof.

I've had the truck for 3 weeks tomorrow.

That looks like a lot more leakage than I would expect to see. I have soft tonneau and do t see anything like that when it rains or I wash the truck.

I have the Ford Tri-Fold Hard Tonneau installed from the factory.

I've found that it does get wet in the car wash in the same spots you are showing. I believe a majority of the water intrusion isn't from the top of the tonneau cover. I think it actually comes from the lift gate. When the high pressure water blasts the rear of the vehicle it seeps in.

It rained pretty good out where I'm at today. I found little to no water intrusion. This further reinforces my hypothesis that high pressure water against the lift gate is the primary issue.

I think someone, somewhere posted a link to some foam/sealant you can put around the lift gate to minimize/eliminate this.

Mine is all from rain. Hasn't been through a car wash since the day I picked it up.

OP,

#1 see if the top tailgate seal it tight against the tailgate, if not, the cover may need to be slid back some to insure a tight seal.

#2 loosen the 6 side clamps, then push down on the sides above the clamps one at a time, starting at the front, working toward the rear, and tighten each clamp as you push down. The sides need to be pulled down tight in order to seal.

Good luck

Oh man! That is just from rain? Yikes!

It rained hard enough this morning that I couldn't hardly see and then it sprinkled most of the afternoon and my bed stayed really quite dry.

Now not all rain is created equal and a squall isn't the same as a drizzle, but based on my experience I suspect your tonneau has a problem.

At this spot on the top of the tailgate. If I turn on the bed light and shut the tailgate, I can still see the bed floor through the edge where the tailgate closes.

^^ with that gap between the bedside and tailgate side, I think you’re a candidate for the weatherstripping above.

I’ve seen several OEM or dealer installed covers that weren’t pushed down tight allowing water penetration at the bedside tops.

I will look into the placement of the tonneau cover as well as the weather stripping.

Thank you all 🙂

It looks like you’re missing the seal that runs along the top of the tailgate. It’s a flap like the sides have.
It looks like the same one on my Ranger and it has that rear seal.
Kind of a pain because you have to lift the rear panel when closing the tailgate so it doesn’t fold under..
