Factory Window Tint for Rear Windows

The previous threads on this forum indicated the rear windows are 30%. I had the factory rear window tint measured today with two different tools and both measured 24.5% . I got my front windows tinted with 20% Ceramic and it is a very close match to the rear windows. I was initially going to do 35% but it did not match nearly as well as 20%. I would say 20-25% Ceramic tint is an the best match!

There are other threads discussing the 20% OEM rear tint, so they're not all wrong, just depends which threads you're reading....

I saw a couple threads saying it was 30%. Two different tools said it was 24.5% on the rear windows. The tools were two different digital readers. I would think they are accurate.

Usually Factory Rear Privacy Tint for trucks and SUVs is in fact 20%. On my Maverick, it is about 25%. The 20% ceramic I got on the front is a close match though.

I thought the rears were 22% and that "22%" was etched in the lower corner of the rear windows.


EDIT: I see pics!!!

They look perfectly matched to my old eyes.
I had planned 20% myself, but now i need to understand color/hue.

For example .. my old Tacoma front windows were 20%; however, they had a blue hue to them.
I never liked it.

Is there such a selection when you ask for 20% ceramic tint?

I just got the standard ceramic the tint shop offered. I believe there are 3 main types of tint. Ceramic, Carbon, and Dyed. I stay away from dyed tint because the color will change to a purple like color with age. I personally like ceramic but there are also many kinds of ceramic tints. I like that many ceramic tints offer heat and UV protection!

Don't over-think this. Just go to a quality tint shop that's been around a while. Tell them you want all the windows to match. They'll deal with the %, taking existing %VLT into consideration. A quality film will be color-matched.

The old blueish film was probably a cheap brand. Quality film like 3M and others will give you the look you want and not have a blue cast to it.

If heat rejection is a concern, definitely get Ceramic. Pricey, but worth it if you plan to keep your truck for years.

The rear windows are 22%, as per the window etching. I went with 25% "regular" tint on the front and I think it's a good match.

I got mine tinted today. I ideally wanted 30% for the fronts but when I got to the tint place, 25 and 35 were the cloest options. So, I went ahead and got 25% on the front doors and a 5% strip across the top of the windshield. Slightly concerned about passing state inspection but most of the time they don't even come out to look at the car. I'll put the fronts down and put my dog in the truck. Should work. In FL and GA the 25% is ok but NC is more stringent.

I have very sensitive eyes when it comes to light and man this makes all the difference in the world. I don't even need sunglasses on now. So happy. Llumar ceramic tint.
