I teach scuba at an university and I routinely have to load up 18 sets of scuba gear with tanks. It hauls it just as well as my co-instructor's Ram 1500.

* I drape the heavy aluminum roll up tonneau cover on top of the regulators so they don't fly out!

It takes some of the disparaging comments away from the Ranger. Remember how the Ranger wasn't a "real" truck?

Exactly, it becomes an arms race. My 17 year old son started driving my VW golf and part of what me uncomfortable is all the giant trucks driven aggressively
Yeah, our maverick replaced a 2009 Kia Rio, tiny, really cheap car. Aside from all the little issues it was having, and the fact that for a compact 2,500 lb car the fuel economy sucked, safety was one of the main reasons we got rid of it. No side airbags, no real crumple zones, a door that was about as thin as the armrest on our explorer. Driving it around massive lifted trucks was constantly nerve-racking.

Yeah that's the thing. I never owned an old ranger but it looks to me like it's part of the thing where vehicles just keep getting bigger. Like the super duties are bigger than years ago, F-150 got bigger, the ranger got bigger and now they made the Maverick which is similar in size to the old ranger if not bigger. It's like Honda. The Accord got bigger, the Civic then grew to the size of the accord or even larger, so then the end to make a new model called the Fit.

I had 90's era Rangers - Loved them to death. Really missed them when I had to let them go. Rangers have gotten to be F150 sized and F150s have just gotten massive and pricing on both is way outta control. The Maverick fits that need that my 90's Rangers used to fill. Absolutely love the Mav - Good price and just the right size for the occasional truck duty things I have. So glad I was able to snag one recently.

So how long until they all grow a size up so that the ranger is F-150 size and the Maverick is ranger size so they have to make a new smaller truck?

That might start with the 2025 models from some of the rumors I've seen floating about. I really hope not though. Mav needs to stay the size/price it started with.

When I look up a Maverick in the FORD parts catalog, it's listed under the car section, not trucks. So, to answer your question, FORD says it's a car.

After driving mine for almost 3 years I miss my good old 2000 Ranger.
Are you looking at a really old paper catalog?

I looked at the online Ford parts catalog and vehicles aren't divided up as cars or trucks, but by year of manufacture, make (Ford, Lincoln), model, etc.

It's a truck. The function, not the construction determines a vehicle. Is a minivan not a van because it is unibody and it is smaller than a full size, body on frame van?

Lets see. A pickup like an F-150 (1) has a bed (2) can tow stuff (3) has some off road capability.
and the Maverick (1) has a bed (2) can tow stuff (3) has some off road capability. Sounds the same to me. Where does it say a pickup HAS to be built on a frame? There a rule book or something I haven't seen?
I'm lovin' myMav...and yes, I've used it as a real "truck" a few times already where a minivan or SUV couldn't have done the job.

We have nothing to prove to people that use terms like “it’s not a man’s truck” or put others down for needing help affording food.
Well I have hit the age we’re everything hurts from years of Contracting so if I don’t have to grab a Grab Bar to get in which in the Maverick we don’t I absolutely love it .

The ultimate question is, "What do you want your truck to do?" I've had a few 1500 (couple of Chevy and a Doge). They did what I wanted them to do. Now I'm pushing 66, and 66 is pushing back real hard. The Mav does exactly what I need it to do. I've moved some significant items, but I don't have to do it everyday as in years past. Perfect truck for occasional truck work, and great for a daily driver. I love it!
Excellent points! You might have a second career at a Ford dealership. LOL
