Initially I was looking at the retractable one for more security but decided on a soft rollup with low profile. figured I didnt want to invest a lot into it and to reduce the amount of bed space where the box takes up. I ended up getting the pro x15 tonneau cover.

Retractable!
I had a retractable on a prior truck. It worked great, except for the canister taking up too much of the front part of the bed. Then winter came, and it no longer worked so great.

If you park outside and get any amount of snow, the thaw causes water to get in the rails, under the side seals, in the latch mechanisms, in the lock, etc. When it got colder and that water re-froze, the cover could no longer be opened. At all. Wouldn't move a bit. I had one winter I almost had to wait until spring to get mine open (no garage at the time). Was one of the better brands also and not a cheapie, if I remember correctly. In subsequent winters, I had to leave it open the whole time. But who wants a cover that you can only use for half the year.

Doing research on covers here for my Mav, I don't think I've seen anyone else say they've had this problem. Can anyone in a cold climate chime in?

Also, the drain lines off the bottom of the canister would plug up easily and then I'd be driving around hearing sloshing because the canister had a lot of rain water in it which wouldn't drain. Hauling leaves & grass once a week was all it took. The wind whips it into any nook and cranny. Gosh, what a pain that thing was now that I think about it.

No and I don’t ever intend on removing it. One, I have no reason to but more to the point, I can’t physically do it. It would just not be practical. Once installed, it stays😎. If I need to haul anything, it will have to be in the confines of the retractable in place. If not, then I’ld have to rent a bigger truck!
I don’t think you’ll find a more affordable cover than the SyneticUSA product. I really like mine.
Thanks for your thoughts! Yeah, I'm thinking back to my prior hard tri-fold, and I think I only removed the cover once. If I go with a retractable cover, I'd definitely do the SyneticUSA. The price seems so fair for what it is.

I don’t think you’ll regret getting it. It’s a more permanent cover solution. If I had unlimited funds I would’ve opted for an electric retractable cover. They are just too much. The SyneticUSA is a reasonable alternative.

I guess there are no perfect solutions. Mine is in a garage and I’ve had no problems. Also here in Abilene, TX we don’t get a lot of snow. Actually, none this winter. So, I haven’t had any issues causing me to question my decision.

As affordable as it is (Syneticusa), I'm not ready to fork over the better part of $1000 for a Chinese manufactured part with a 75 percent profit for someone. Still waiting for a lightweight one piece like the Undercover Elite for the Maverick. Too many moving parts on a retractable. I don't know why RealTruck is ignoring this application for the Maverick. Seems it would be the perfect size for one person to install and remove when needed.

Just ordered the the Gator SFX soft tri fold. Inexpensive, and should hild to snow. Looks easy to install and remove. Reviews here indicate it won't leak.

Thinking seriously about Leer HF650M quadfold for Maverick Hybrid Lariat Oxford White scheduled for first week in April 2024. I like the fiberglass panels that are dent resistant, easy quad fold, folds vertical but doesn’t rest against rear window and better locks than the pull wires on others. Right now the only place to buy it for the Maverick is leer.com, other Leer dealers don’t offer it for the Maverick. Any thoughts on Leer and this cover would be great.

Completely agree. I haven't had a retractable, but have had enough doors freeze shut to know that a retractable in frozen tundra is a bad idea.

BTW, I'm leaning toward a hard tri-fold. I've had a soft rollup on a Sport-Trac, but the hard tri-fold is a step-up in security and durability.

That's what I want. I'm just not paying ~$1K for one. That's too much for what that is....
Uh it’s only $10 more, can use $210 ford credit for something else. You’re still paying the same price one way or the other.

Retractable! Which one and why: I chose the SyneticUSA retractable from Truck2Go. The price was $839 got 5% off, $150 shipping and $65 to have it installed for a total of $1,007.00! Much less than anywhere else. Why? I don’t like paying for the same thing over and over. Every cover that uses some type of vinyl/felt is going to wear out and need replacement at some point. Nearly all retractable covers are powder coated aluminum that aerospace quality and tough. Once installed, I fully expect the cover to last the life of the truck. Thus it is a one time buy. Not to mention it just looks fantastic!

Have you hauled 4x8 sheets of plywood? Any issues fitting the plywood under the cover box? How many sheets will fit?

No, and I don’t anticipate needing to do that but there is a lot of space under the canister for several sheets I would think. If that is a regular need for you then I would consider other options. However, if you want a permanent cover solution, the retractable is the way to go. Buy once and done. All the other covers or most of them will have to be replaced at some point. There are no perfect solutions since all have pros and cons. Get what works for your needs. 😊
