Those sure are different than standard crimps if I am seeing that right. Have seen them used in home wiring.
They’re all I use now. Home and boat. Haven’t used them on my truck but I’m sure I will at some point.

T-taps have a lot of downsides that need to be taken into consideration. I absolutely wouldn't use them for tapping anything that's a variable voltage or signal wire. They need to be sized appropriately for the wire they're tapping or you'll get bad connection or damage the wire's strands. And I'm really not fond of using them anywhere relatively exposed to the elements like the engine compartment, especially on a main wiring harness you can't easily replace because they aren't sealed and create an ingress point for corrosion to spread up/down the wire.
I agree, though my next project project is replacing the interior rearview mirror. If that becomes a high moisture area, I have a bigger problem! #yikes

In the past I have always soldered and shrink tubed electrical connections. I have read that crimps are better. Is there a certain type of crimps to use? And or the crimping tool? I have used standard butt splices but they are not sealed against moisture.

If you are accustomed to soldering and shrink tubing keep doing it. Crimp connector connections do not have the same integrity. Just recently I tried some heat shrinkable butt splices with solder included. Seemed to make a very secure connection.

Thanks have seen these types in harbor frieght. While I like harbor frieght for tools you may not use alot. Not sure about the quality of those there. Was hoping to find a good brand. Not sure if brands like amp, t&b pandit are still around.
Every hand tool I have bought from Harbor Freight has either broken, or stripped out or otherwise failed on the job. I want to like them but I don't trust them any longer. I hope I'm in the minority on this issue.

Thanks for all the input, all! I've been waved away from the T-taps and am going to try the solder seal wire connectors instead. I have PCB soldering experience and this method seems to be reliable.

Wago connectors for me. Haven’t had a failure yet.
I find them perfect when someone has cut the wires too short in an electrical outlet box. Adding pigtails is much easier with Wagos. I find they are much more reliable under the dash on the old British cars I restore than the traditional bullet connectors (I don't do concours :)).

I only use Harbor for odd one off tools. Would not use them if I was a pro. Back in the day I fixed typewriters. Loved the spring hooks used to working with small springs. Found a cheap set there. Handy when you need it.

I bet you use them alot on those Britsh cars. My brother had a tr6 and a mg. Always had electrical issues.

I had a '64 Jaguar XKE and every wire on the car seemed to be secured with small screws. You can imagine what vibration and freezing and sweltering weather did to those connections. They were all Lucas Electrics. You can still buy a jar of Lucas Smoke. 😯🙂

I'm going with the T-taps when I start with electrical mods...unless y'all have had issues with them?
T-taps are absolutely the worst method of tapping into a circuit. Although easy to use, they will eventually fail due to corrosion and vibration. No professional I know would use them, if I saw someone using these on my vehicle, I would run as fast as possible for the exit. They are OK for temporary use until a proper permanent repair is done. In my opinion, you will be sorry if you hack up a modern vehicles wiring using them.
