Ford makes a big deal out of the convenient power taps terminated near the tailgate on both sides of the bed. How come no one is selling direct plug-in accessories? If I want to add a couple of 12V DC power sockets to the bed, I have to buy the sockets, buy the pigtails, wire them together, and install them. That's hardly easier than just buying them and wiring them in to normal wiring. Same goes for LED bed lighting, etc. Isn't the market big enough now that one could find simple add-on accessories that are pre-wired to plug into the Maverick's rear power plugs?

🤷 I see your point, but my truck came with a harness. I just soldered the connection. You could also use a nut and some electric tape to make the connection.

In other words, the plugs offers no real convenience... you still have to solder/wire nut/tape the connections.

We all get a pigtail with our Maverick. First, go to the trouble of soldering on your accessory and then it conveniently plugs in to the truck.

Kind of like dehydrated water... just add water!

I appreciate not having to hack into the tail light assembly to get power. I agree....it wouldn't be too hard for some companies to offer a plug and play option, on the either hand....sometimes plugs like that are owned by a company and not that easy to get licensed. 🤷 I actually enjoyed my installation.

I agree. Why can't I just purchase a different plug with fixture and plug it in. I should not have to solder, install a switch, etc to use these. And if I want one on each side, can I just purchase another pigtail from the dealer?

I have many 12v plug in accessories for camping. It took me about 90 minutes to pull liner back, cut the holes, crimp and tape the sockets to the pigtails, plug into Ford connection and put it back together. For me it's better than buying duplicates with a Ford connector.

I am a 73yo female.

I might even be able to tackle this but a pre-built pig tail would be convenient.

The benefit vs not having the pigtail is you don't have to tap into existing wiring, or wire back to the fuse panel. This is better from a warranty and reliability and even safety perspective.
But I do agree that I am surprised that I haven't seen any aftermarket items taking advantage of this.

Hey now! Are you trying to make me look like a weenie? ;) I deserve it for being a crybaby.

I am capable of wiring up a couple of 12V sockets in the bed. I just got done doing a whole bunch of soldering, adding Anderson Power Poles to some ham radio stuff. I just wish I could order the stuff for my Maverick pre-wired... it would be so convenient.

I'm hoping this thread will inspire some young entrepreneur.

Where was the pigtail that came with your truck?
Mine was in a plastic bag under the rear seat along with a front license plate bracket and maybe some paperwork or the manual?

This thread reminds me of the guy who offers the plates that clean-up the area around the trailer hitch & wiring socket. He goes thru the effort to create a product that people like, but then they complain that they could do it cheaper. If some "young entrepreneur " offered a 12V power port/cigarette lighter socket, mounted in a plate w/the pigtail, what would any of you be willing to pay for it?

This is where the reality of what things cost would set in. Nobody is really willing to pay people for their time, plus they'll want free shipping.

Yes you can purchase as many as you can budget for from your dealer.

By quoting me, it sure seems you're implying that I'd be that guy who would complain about costs and that I'm not willing to pay people for their time. Have we met?
