So, I've always liked how the third brake light flashes on some vehicles. Something super simple that I find really catches your eye. I find it to be a very simple but effective safety feature.

After researching, I found bulbs that add the strobe/flashing effect. The third brake light is the same on the F-150s, so there were options I could have gone with, including changing out the unit itself. I did not want to put a whole new unit in as I like how the factory unit looks.

The bulbs I bought can be found on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SGB672J?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 These say they do not fit the Maverick, but I can confirm they do.

It's not too hard to take these off. Just four 7mm bolts that come off really easy. Lightly pull to get it off. While I had the third brake light off, I did the BAP/Zep treatment on them. It's a small change, but it cleans up the back and matches the BAP'ed taillights I did. It's the same procedure for all the other lights on the truck. Remove, soak in Zep, rinse and dry (I use a hair dryer on low heat), and reinstall.

Below are photos of what I did. It is very simple and inexpensive ($15 with shipping). I would suggest making the change if you are looking at LED bulb options and want a flashing third brake light.

I find those things extremely annoying
I too find them annoying.

Now if they followed what they do in Europe then they would be of value as they only flash when the vehicle in front is suddenly braking by slamming on their brakes.

blinking brake lights

Also, there is a difference between what’s allowed in Europe and what you probably saw on your drive. The flashing emergency stop signals you might find in the EU are set to only come on during rapid deceleration. In normal use, the brake lights would be steady-burning, but if you slam on your brakes they’d flash to hopefully draw the attention of any following drivers.

Would the Diode Dynamic 921s also work in the cargo light? My neighbor bought 4 sets of them for his Subaru and has a set left over. If they fit, he said I could buy them. Any help would be much appreciated. 👍

Does it flash the entire time the brakes are applied or only initially?

its of value when you just step on the brake as it gets the attention of the driver behind you not just when you slam on your brakes. its an attention getter. if you don't like it then don't do it. as the old saying goes you do you and I'll do me.....

I did the same bulbs and think it looks great. only problem is Im putting a cap on the bed of my truck and it comes with LED third brake light so you won't be able to see the third brake light on the cab once the cap is installed.

Thank you kindly. 👍 I'll tell my neighbor when I see him, I'll take them. Which number is the ones for the reverse lights? Would love to make them brighter.

Thanks for posting. I like the fact that they only flash three times and then go solid. The constant blinking ones are super annoying to anyone behind you.

Just initially. Only three flashes then it's a solid light. I wanted something that would catch someone's attention.
