No. They are not in "deep financial stress". They beat market expectations in Q1 significantly and their performance in fleet and legacy auto sales have more than offset their losses in the electric vehicle market.

In Q2, Ford was again America's top selling domestic brand and they saw an 11% YoY increase in net sales through the first 6 months of 2023.

Cash flow from operations and adjusted free cash are $5.0 billion and $2.9 billion, respectively. Ford’s balance sheet, with nearly $30 billion of cash and more than $47 billion of liquidity at the end of Q2, both of them up sequentially and year-over-year.

Ford Pro and Blue are going very strong and carry the debt created by the EV operations, which Ford has predicted and continued to maintain - will become profitable for the company in 2026.

Can you provide any links where Ford is in deep financial distress? As a shareholder I would be extremely interested in the information as it contradicts what I've heard on the most recent earning calls.
I hate it when intelligent people start throwing facts around and screw-up my delusionary theories.

New Mustang 2.3 motor, factory lift and bigger tires -- in XL trim. Also available in regular cab and extended cab. Roll-up windows and manual transmission. Redesigned trim for easy speaker upgrades. lol

1. It will not be a full electric. Major companies just announced they were moving away from some of the electrics due to light demand.

2. It will be whatever is easiest to change slightly for the highest markup. Sport model with lowering, badge, and slight tune change, maybe AWD, would be it. Anything more is a dream.

They do NOT want more XL sales, so PHEV would probably just be XLT and up.
I should clarify what I said a bit more, I don’t think there will be an XLT PHEV, Lariat PHEV, etc. They used to have {trim} PHEV on the Escape but for 2023 they simplified it to a single Plug-in Hybrid trim. I would expect similar for the Maverick, so the trims would be XL, XLT, Lariat, and Plug-in Hybrid. The Plug-in Hybrid would resemble an XLT with Lux for features, but it would have its own premium package available to upgrade it to Lariat+ features.

They did, it's called a Bronco Sport :)

Before they go off and start building more variants how about getting the folks that have been waiting for months and years the variants they ordered.
I just saw a Bronco Sport up close. First impression was : Hey! An Updated 2005 Escape!

Never thought of that but there is a remarkable resemblance.

That being said, I doubt they make a PHEV version. They barely make the Escape version, and the added complexity feels excessive.
PHEV should be a no brainer. They get Uncle Sam to pay $7,500 of the vehicle cost and less than 1/4 of the lithium needed for a BEV.

Um the PHEV Escape doesn't qualify for the full $7500 only half so what makes you think a PHEV Maverick will?
Escape PHEV was designed before the new $7500 law was passed. If Ford is designing a new PHEV Maverick, they should source the materials in US to get full $7500 like some other PHEV get.

IDK man that seems like a stretch. Right now the only two PHEVs that qualify for the full $7500 are the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan and the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring. Both of those vehicles are well beyond the price of a Maverick so they have higher profit margin built in.

Anyway, I guess we'll see when Ford announces these new versions. I'm not saying a PHEV Maverick is impossible just highly unlikely given its market segment as Fords entry level vehicle.
With all the cutbacks Ford is making to their BEV programs there should be plenty of Lithium for Mav PHEV.

That's why my wife and I like them. We had a 2012 Escape and loved it. Still like the new Escapes but they became a cross over instead of an off-road capable vehicle.

Perhaps but I still believe it is highly unlikely. I guess we will just have to wait and see which direction Ford decides to go with future Mavericks. :)(y)

That is a government subsidized margin increase, no way they ignore it. The consumers will never see that savings, it will just be baked into a higher MSRP and Ford will make more money.

That's totally fair. I'll own that. I should have phrased that way more delicately. My thought process is that Ford and all the other OEMs are in deep financial distress in the sense that they have to fund this incredibly expensive BEV transformation over the next decade. ICE has to fund that. More than a few industry observers expect at least one major OEM to go under if they don't handle things just right...
