Should I buy an ESP plan? 2023 hybrid XLT

This is my first new car ever, the previous one was ~30 years old and I repaired it myself (easy/inexpensive to work on Volvo).

About me:

• I plan on keeping my Maverick ~10 years at least as long as it doesn't fall apart on me. I genuinely enjoy it
• I drive < 5,000 miles a year, so warranty would be by time not mileage. I've had the car over a week and am now at 65 total miles
• I'm more concerned about big stuff breaking, such as a $2000 repair, vs a $50 or $100 repair. That doesn't bother me. I can't fix new cars like I can fix my old one
• Car will be kept stock, with no mods except basic ones like the damper and stickers on the tailgate

I'm growing concerned with all these reports of failure points such as the heat exchanger, which with total bewilderment cannot be replaced alone, it must be (at minimum) cut out and re-welded in place, and at worst the entire exhaust cat down is replaced.

When I go here:

and punch in my car, I can get a 10 year/100,000 mile $200 deductible plan for $1500. That seems...really reasonable? Is this site legit?

Would that ESP cover the issues that have been popping up? The heat exchanger, axles, etc? I assume as time goes on many more will also come up as well.

The site is legit and supposedly like $50 over cost. I bought there and the exact same coverage but I added bulb protection. Essentially you are buying 7 years of coverage on things regular warranty doesn’t cover. It costs me a little over $200 per year and if I never use it I don’t see it as a huge loss. It could pay for itself in one repair.

others will say you won’t get you’re money out of it and they are likely right but if you don’t do it you might wish you had. Actually I hope I don’t ever need to use it.

I had a 2022 Xl hybrid that I put 50k on, the only issue I encountered was the exhaust heat exchanger, which was covered under warranty. I would consider a 10-12k mile warranty on a used purchase if the factory B-B was expired just in case someone dumped a lemon. I voted no

From what I've read and talking with other people, I am personally waiting until my 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is almost up before I buy an extended warranty.

As @Mav_RICK mentioned, you are paying for a 10 year extended warranty, but are really only getting 7 years because the first 3 years run concurrent with your 3 year warranty from the factory.

Plans change quickly.

Wait until you are beyond the manufacturers warranty then decide.

Personally, if I make it 4 years and can get one that covers it the rest of it's life up to 200k for $1k (and not a penny more), then I'd buy in. So you can see where I stand... I'd rather put that money in a high yield savings.

Everyone's financial situation is different, so you are essentially weighing the value of insurance.

I debated it but my local Ford dealer's service department is absolute garbage, I end up going in multiple times for the same issue and have to eventually research and tell them exactly the part that needs fixed. 3 trips in and a total of 5 days in the shop for a cruise control switch on a 2020 Explorer was the death nail in trusting them to do anything right. So, for the most part I still do my own work now.

Any stats available on the maverick for major mechanical repairs? Might make your decision easier.

In my lifetime I've never really capitalized on an extended warranty for something more than $100 or so.

I dont put a lot of mileage on my car. So the 5 year 60k seemed fine. 5 years is a long time to break something in. If I find in those 5 years that people have problems at >60k then I'll sell it and buy a Honda again .

I did not buy extended warranty on my 23 Maverick ice but if it had been hybrid I would have because it’s more complicated with more moving parts and less history of service. I did buy a 7 yr 100000 mi on mi 2021 Mach e for the same reasons. I will likely trade it at the end of 7 years or the range exceeds 600 miles.

Yes - you should look into an ESP....in about 2.5 years or 35,000 miles - whichever comes first.

Until then - use your factory 3 year 36k bumper to bumper warranty to cover everything while you find out if you're going to keep your Maverick long term.

I have a 2022 lariat hybrid with 15k miles and purchased the extended warranty from Ford on day one. I am 66 and retired and so as long as I keep my truck, not worried about anything other than tires and gas.

I see both sides but for me I like the peace of mind and for $50 over cost seems pretty reasonable. now the warranty my dealership was trying to sell me when I bought the truck that’s another story. Compared to Granger it was laughable. it’s warranties like that make people run from these things but $50 over cost is different story.

You are confident? I'm not trying to be a downer but so many issues with these cars already. I'm in it for the long haul but the design and engineering choices make me really scratch my head.

I get that,I think ESP are a money grab and a waste of money.but do what you think is right!
