Hello, hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.
Would like to ask all of new owners of the Maverick, will you consider to purchase the extended warranty, such as Ford Premium Care which can cover up to 8 years or 150,000 miles.
My concern is that this is a brand new model, there is no enough information for reliability, the repair cost could be high because there are so many technology and controls are based on computer chips and codes. You may not even can find an independent tech to read the code.
I have been a owner of a brand new model car back in 2011, the transmission has to be rebuilt at year 7, ~ 91,000 miles which caused a fortune because all my warranty was expired.
I know there is not a definite answer for my question, just want to hear all suggestions and advices to help me out.
Thanks again.

What transmission/make was your car that needed a new tranny at 91k?

Can't speak for this person's post but it's definitely an issue with some vehicles. My wife had a 2013 Nissan Sentra. Her CVT failed at about 75k.

This is what I'm thinking of doing -
1. Not get the extended warrantee when I buy the truck. I think they are really expensive, even though you can roll it into the payment and take a few years to pay for it.
2. I'm getting an EcoBoost engine, which has direct injection. Direct injection has a reputation of causing carbon to collect on the intake valves leading to expenses.
3. I know I can get a powertrain warrantee from my car insurance company, Geico (others have it too, just call them), so I'll probably get that for the Mav after 3 years.

Just say no to everything in the finance room
Don't say no, negotiations have just moved to another employee who will earn $$$ if he sells you something. Maybe you can trade for something like fender flares if you buy something that has a 30 day free return/ cancellation option. ??? Don't forget his job is to sell you a loan. Maybe you can get lower loan amount with no early payoff penalty. Gotta be on your toes! ???

Ford Extended Service Plans (ESP) can now be purchased online at pricing substantially lower than what is quoted in the dealership.
I have used Flood Ford for my last 4 ESP plans that I purchased. I will use Flood Ford for this Maverick. An ESP Premium plan, 8 years/85,000 miles, all lights and key fob coverage……$1800.
When you trade in or sell the covered vehicle, canceling the ESP plan has provided a generous refund on three different occasions.

An extended warranty is sort of like pre-paying for repairs that you may or not have. I don’t buy extended warranties anymore because I never felt like I got value from them.

if the extended warranty gives you price of mind, then I say go for it. Otherwise, I suggest you don’t abuse it, maintain it properly and it will last a long long time.

just my 2 cents

The hybrid powertrain is covered for 8/100k so what other big ticket items are we looking to cover? I don't see any, really.

Minitab, what engine are you getting? Sounds like it must be the 2.0l EcoBoost since your endnote says you are getting AWD.

Yes. Shop around first. Why? I have the 2.0 motor in my 2013 focus st, and its one of the few Ecoboost motors that doesn't sport dual injection. Carbon buildup is real. I've had to do it around every 25k for the focus and it's gonna be due soon at 66k.

Last time they did the service they ended up busting the exhaust manifold while trying to extract a stubborn bolt, and had to replace it wholesale, turbo and all. Still have the pics.

It was all under the ESP, and no way I could currently afford so much work from a dealer again.

Had the same issue with a Volkswagen Rabbit, this was a new model and transmission shit the bed at 90,000 miles. Cost me $5,000 to replace and car was never the same afterwards.

No. In nearly 50 years of driving, I have never needed an extended warranty - and it especially makes no sense to purchase one when the original warranty already covers the vehicle. If not buying an extended warranty makes you nervous - and, believe me, the finance department will try very hard to make you nervous - take the cost of that 'extra' coverage and put it in savings to use if that ridiculously bizarre unlikely thing happens 3 years from now, and pay for the repair yourself.

I’m going to say that it depends. I will more than likely get one because I drive about 20k miles a year and do 99% city driving and turn Off and On the motor About 20x a day. For my circumstances I believe it’s worth it.

LED headlights, infotainment, electric power steering rack, A/C (servicing 1234-YF isn't cheap), anti-collision imaging module, CoPilot radar, turbocharger for the Ecoboost folks, and Ford could possibly build AWD PTUs that like to grenade again.
