I sold my 2022 Hybrid Lariat with 23,000 miles to CarMax for 29k as my 2023 was due in any day. The same truck is now listed at CarMax for $34,998.
the point being there is still a vibrant market for used Maverick’s.
If you sold your Maverick to a retailer, what did they turn around and list it for?

I hope that remains true whenever my '24 Lariat comes in next year. I bought a '23 XLT to hold me over until then and it'd be nice to sell or trade it and not lose a bunch.

Carvana has listed my Maverick that I sold to them for $31,404 on 8/28/2023

They had it originally listed for $35,990 or $4,586 more than what I was paid.
The VIN number exactly matches: 3FTTW8E35NRA18742

It has since dropped by $400 to $35,590 then by another $600 to the current price of $34,990

They did fix the roof defects where out of the blue something slammed into the roof just above the front camera then bounced along the roof scratching it to the top back over the passenger seat behind the driver. The impact did penetrate the paint to the primer.

As for what hit my Maverick was a mystery as I was driving on I-35 going to Winstar at 78 MPH and with no traffic in front of us for miles, no overpasses and a clear sunny sky BOOM. So my guess is either a meteorite, a bird dropping something that was too heavy for it or something fell off a plane because I have no other idea what it was.

Carvana did not ding my offered price for the defects and I did tell them no exterior defects. I was expecting some reduction in offer price but was pleasantly surprised that I was paid exactly what they offered.

They probably had to re-paint the entire roof so that may justify some of the increased price.

Until they reset the FordPass Access on 9/8/2022 I could track it to Oklahoma City where maybe they have a repair facility. The mileage only went up 9 miles from when I sold it to Carvana on 8/28/23 so it was transported to and from Oklahoma City and Frisco TX.

Here is the link: Carvana Site Showing My 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid for Sale

This is from my post here: Sold my MY22 Maverick XLT Hybrid to Carvana

Sold my MY22 Maverick XLT Hybrid that has these factory options added:
Co-Pilot360 + Rear Sliding Window + 110V/400W Outlet in Cab
Also added aftermarket: Hard Drop-In Bedliner + Rear Splash Guards + Front Windows Tinted

I purchased it on 12/13/2021 for the out-the-door price of $26,068.21. That includes all taxes and fees. MSRP was $24,175.85 which includes delivery charge

Sold to Carvana on 8/28/2023 for $31,404
That price is $5,335.79 over my out-the-door price of $26,068.21
and $7,228.15 over MSRP price of $24,175.85 which includes delivery charge

Not bad for a used vehicle that I have had for 1 3/4 years and 9,269 miles.

All Carmax prices are outrageously high. They list many high demand, used vehicles for the same price as brand new ones.

Their prices do not represent market values.

I work for Carmax at a smaller cross-functional store and took delivery of my new 23' ecoboost xl in area 51 with with full size spare as only option - sticker 23,580 first part of March - it has 850 miles - for shits and giggles I appraised it the other day and got an offer of 27,500. - retail it will be marked to 33,998 - that is down a thousand in the past month

What's the difference? It's their truck to sell for whatever they can for it. If you're worried you let it go to cheap, that's on you. I never regreted what I sold anything for, whether I made money, or lost. Last year I sold my 2002 Ford Thunderbird for $6500, because I was tired of putting money in it. I've moved on, someone got a deal and we're both happy I'm sure. Enjoy your new Maverick, the one ordered the way you wanted it.

Went down to the Carmax and sat in your old truck today in fact :D. Looks nice but they never cleaned out the bed, still had a bunch of mulch in the back.

Truck has a pending sticker and it's not on the site anymore. Looks like they found a buyer already.

I traded my first Maverick back to my dealer when my '23 order came in. I paid $30,050 for it new before taxes and they gave me $32,000 in trade after 4 months and almost 7000 miles. Sold it used for $39,400. They got it back after a month, I don't know how much they gave the buyer but they resold it again for $39,100. After the other buyer put 3000 more miles on it.

Just baffles me a bit someone somewhere is eating the losses in these transactions. I guess I theory it could be less loss than a rental if you're in a bind. But as a thrifty person, I'm always curious about the scenario. I'm guessing that dealer didnt buy it back without margin of at least $1000.

In general the few people that I know who swap cars around like that will tell you how they are coming-out ahead. However, when you dig deeper with them they're still spending thousands beyond keeping a car for the long haul. Their justified savings is almost always against a lease or first few years of new vehicle purchase. My last two cars have been roughly $1500 a year cost of ownership when keeping them for 10+ years. That's depreciation + repair, not gas and maintenance.
