Well, I can't believe I'm actually using an app, to track my mileage-

But here it is...

I originally posted that I can get 50 in town, and 25 when standing on it in crazy freeway traffic-

Ford Maverick The REAL HYBRID MPG Screenshot_20230908-001355

.
Sometimes I try to do the pulse and glide on the freeway-

But I normally hammer down to zip around all the dozer bros...

I drive a lot of highway, and don't hypermile. Pretty close to Ford's combined numbers

Love it! I'm glad that it's working out for you. I just don't see how that's possible unless you are being VERY intentional about it, which you must be. I also cart around my kids quite a bit and the bed isn't without something in it most of the time. I just drive the truck, in ECO mode, and I'm VERY happy with my average after coming from a 14 Colorado that averaged 19MPG.
There are 3 basic things most people do not do:
1. Allow for REgen Braking, the longer you coast to a stop the more energy is put back into the battery.
2. Stay off the freeway.
3. Try and not be in the far right lane in city traffic.

I think Truckman has been properly schooled that SOME people routinely get 50+ mpg and some people don't.

Every case is unique.

I go to work and back every single day on 35 mph and 45 mph roads. I have lots of stoplights and stop signs.

I drive 120 to 140 miles per week.

I always get 47 mpg to 57 mpg for the full tank.

It's not magic.

My wife drives a Toyota Venza.
Similar drive train.
She always gets 46 to 47 MPG tanks.
She does not game the system.

I do. So playing the game is good for an extra 10 MPG sometimes.

It's fun for me. If it's not fun for you, you can just drive.

I'm only on my second tank and coming for the 600 club.. I've already been able to achieve consistent 57mpg (per the dash) trips to work, which are approx 25 mi long, flat, take me about 50 minutes of travel and range between 30 and 50mph speed limits, but MAN do I have to drive like the "small world after all" water ride at Disney to get it.. I don't think I anyone accelerating with normal traffic from a stoplight is going to have an easy time getting high mpg numbers. Ironically, if those same cars are otherwise maintaining a similar speed as me (but just routinely accel faster) then I do frequently see them at the next stoplight, non of us are in stop and go traffic.. It's almost ideal non rush hour conditions.

I can't tell if I have the patience to keep this snails pace up on the regular (it takes effort to drive differently), or if going back to driving "normally" saves me any substantial travel time (don't think it will!)

For those that pulse and glide and are getting 50+ mpg doing it, is your acceleration while pulsing painstakingly slow? For example, I find it takes me almost 8, 9 seconds to get from 40mph back to 50 mph on flat road, if I keep the power meter under 10%

No!

I don't drive slowly at all!

I drive on slower roads.

Always with the flow. No honks, no birds, no gun brandishing at me.

47 to 57 mpg. Daily.

AND these numbers are gnat's ass ACCURATE. I adjusted the computer in the dash engineering mode to subtract 5%. Photos above have been adjusted 5% down.

It is NOT about how slow you accelerate. It is almost the opposite. It’s more like… get up to speed at whatever pace you are comfortable with and spend as much time as possible moving with the engine off.

With that being said, I get the best MPG in 35-45MPH speed limits.

My first numbers...

First tank fill at 661.7 miles and 14.42 gallons comes to 45.88 MPG. Not quite sure how I was able to put in 14.42 gallons in a 13 something tank with approximately 20 miles to go but whatever. I won't be stopping there again. I estimate 330 miles out of those 660 were highway at anywhere from 45 to 60 miles per hour.

Second fill with 371.4 miles and 8.14 gallons comes to 45.62 MPG. This, except for passing through small towns, was almost all highway at 60 to 65 miles per hour. Rarely touched 70.
Count me impressed.

Hello: I've seen several posts stating my Maverick Hybrid got 45 MPG, 57 MPG and more. They back them up with pictures of their dash. The only way to have your REAL MPG is by filling up your tank and filling it up again, and doing the math with your total mileage. Anyone can post a picture of their dash for a short trip and have it show 40, 50, and more MPG. I can drive around my neighborhood, never going over 30 MPH, trying my best to stay on electric power and show a bogus dash picture. I've owned hybrids for 15 years. I can post a picture of my PriusV, going down hill and it says my MPG is 99 MPG. If you want to give an honest MPG value, give us a gas tank refill, do the math with your total miles driven and then state what kind of MPG you are getting. Don't go posting a 30 or 60 mile trip and post a picture. I just don't want some people thinking their hybrids are living up to standards.
Fuelly.org has the straight poop.

Yes. Keeping that power meter under that first notch or line will get you nowhere fast but I think thats where the greatest savings occur.

"Playing the game" is worth at least 10mpg in a hybrid. When my wife takes the Maverick, the overall MPG will go down - yes, after every single trip. She simply could not care less about efficiency. It's completely a game for me; my goal then becomes to return the overall on-board estimate to where it was. If I was the only driver, I'm pretty certain the on-board estimate would be 55mpg or even more.

Yup, every case is unique. I play the game, don't do a ton of highway driving, and live in an area with a lot of rolling hills so a hybrid is ideal for me.

If my conversions are right (3.7 ltr to the gallon and 544.94 miles in 877 km) that's 43.84 MPG. Who wouldn't be happy with that especially given your paying the equivalent of something like $7.00 per gallon ($5.00 USD). That's gotta hurt.

The physical tank size in the hybrid is around 16.5 gallons.

13.8 should be your "nominal fill" when the needle hits E.

13.8 is what the computer uses to calculate miles to empty.

Computed empty has a margin of error built in (in your favor). Imagine the complaints if the computer margin went the other way.

Enjoy!

Ranger,

Okay, I have owned my Maverick for a month just broke 1K miles, and filled up the tank for a second time. I didn't take any pictures then but did the rough math after topping it off while rounding up to the even dollar amount (an old habit from when cash was the main form of payment), I remember saying 40+ MPG is pretty good for my first fill-up. Unfortunately, I do not remember the exact gallon amount but based on the mileage total today, my first tank was 507.7.

After reading this original post and just refilling my Maverick a second time, here are the results in staggered form based on when the pump stopped and when I topped it off while rounding to an even dollar amount.

Total Mileage for my second tank of gas with a definite mix of city and highway miles while driving in the DMV on the 95s (aka 495, 95, and 295), various state highways, and street driving in DC and BMore : 567.7

Initial Pump Stop: 12.4 gals - MPG: 45.782
Final Pump Stop: 13.1 gals - MPG: 43.335

For a frame of reference to what the on-board computer calculated, attached is a screenshot of my Trip 2 odometer which I used to track miles per tank (Trip 1 is for total daily mileage). Both are usually generous with the MPG.

One thing I will note is that for the second tank, I actually used and paid attention to the Hybrid Coach while driving. Of course, there are other variables that could have contributed to the 60-mile difference, the main one being that, I do not know how full the tank was when I drove it off the lot.

Hope this helps anyone who is awaiting their order a little bit of what to expect.
