I just clocked over 8000 miles on the odometer of my 23 XLT... I'm averaging 42.6 mpg for the life of the car, that's with only turning on eco mode on longer trips. That figure also includes multiple trips/moving back and forth from PA to NC. I'd say 40's is reasonable, it's all about driving style and I've noticed the mpg tanks once you get up to 70+ mph.
When you say "life of the car" are you keeping that data with pen and paper or using an app or some spreadsheet?

Hello: I've seen several posts stating my Maverick Hybrid got 45 MPG, 57 MPG and more. They back them up with pictures of their dash. The only way to have your REAL MPG is by filling up your tank and filling it up again, and doing the math with your total mileage. Anyone can post a picture of their dash for a short trip and have it show 40, 50, and more MPG. I can drive around my neighborhood, never going over 30 MPH, trying my best to stay on electric power and show a bogus dash picture. I've owned hybrids for 15 years. I can post a picture of my PriusV, going down hill and it says my MPG is 99 MPG. If you want to give an honest MPG value, give us a gas tank refill, do the math with your total miles driven and then state what kind of MPG you are getting. Don't go posting a 30 or 60 mile trip and post a picture. I just don't want some people thinking their hybrids are living up to standards.
Admittedly only a few weeks into owning my '23 XLT Hybrid and I'm really pleased with my mileage. Having owned a previous Ford with Atkinson cycle design for almost 60k miles, I knew how to squeeze the best out of it.
First tankful was intentionally a hyper mile exercise. Slow acceleration, long braking, and very deliberate maneuvers. I got 48.2 mpg. And that was before I got into the habit of hitting "eco" and driving in landing mode most of the time. I also avoided the interstate unless absolutely necessary.
Second tank was more my real world style. Still not very aggressive, I kept up with traffic, accelerated at a speedier clip. I also was more conscientious and eco and landing modes. This time I hit 44.0 for a full tank. Both tanks were measured using miles driven/gallons consumed, not computer.
For reference, my 2018 C-Max averaged about 46.5 in the 4+ years I owned it. I hypermiled as much as 53.2 and it gradually began to slack off into the 42-43 range recently. I suspect that is a combination of reduced battery capacity, diffe
rent tires and the possible need for a tune up. Still, both of these vehicles convinced me Ford know hybrids and electrics. I just wish their was a plug-in hybrid available. I do mostly short trips on flat roads and I have no doubt I could get 700-800 miles per tank with a bigger plug in battery.

I’ve been running my trip meter since day 1 and it shows 45.2 over 8851 miles. I would think that is close to accurate

The trip meters only hold X amount of MPG. Your RECENT not too distant past average is about 45 MPG. The data from the day you drove it home is gone.

Don’t be all assuming. I’ve done both and the mpg is within 1. So sorry you’re unable to achieve desired results.
I didn't s
Five observations.

If you start a trip with a low traction battery voltage the first few miles will be sub 30 mpg no matter what you do because the engine is running non-stop. If you start a trip with a charged battery than you can milk that into a stupid high MPG to post on FB.

Most people posting super high MPGs for a random trip cannot back it up with a full tank that is anywhere near that.

Most people are vein and completely ignore their low MPG trips choosing to only share the data that will get them a pat on the back.

Hybrids HATE speed demons. 80-90 mph for an entire tank equals under 23 mpg. (see the low peak in my chart)

Hybrid Mavs can 100% beat the EPA ratings. I have a lead foot and my best full tank was 43 mpg manually calculated (computer is always optimistic). You just can't have a lead foot and must plan your braking to only use regen or better yet not come to a stop at all. That said I don't drive enough to care about that so I'm gunning it most of the time and still avg low 30s which matches the Prius v (big booty wagon) I used to have.

A realist, so true what you say. It's an admirable trait!

I posted this a while ago. Hope it doesn't upset you. Drove on normal mode and reset at fill up. Since then I've only gotten 550ish a tank. Probably because I've been hauling cargo and running the AC in the heat. Driving is around LA on and off the freeway almost everyday. Drove a PHEV before so I know when to accelerate, coast, regen etc which helps. Way better than the 2017 crv on gas and way more practical.

That’s very interesting, guess I have to get out the pen and paper.

I agree. I've tracked continuous fuel economy by filling it up again and again since June 21, 2022. All four seasons must also be considered. In Michigan, we get much better fuel economy in the non-winter months. Arizona drivers, just the opposite.

My Michigan four-season average calculation was 40.5 mpg, with about a 45% / 55% mix of city/hwy miles during that 30,000 mile, 12-month period.

Adding 2-1/2 more months of summer in 2023 (14-1/2 total months of fill-up mpg tracking), my fuel economy calculates to 41.0 mpg.

I figure it this way. I get around 42-44 I'm in Florida so it's all flat. I don't need to prove nothing to nobody. I love it I'm keeping it and everything else is just trolling for comments. Oh yeah and it beats the shit out of all other little trucks.

I agree with your post. So here are some numbers on my 2023 Hybrid XLT that arrived in March, And these numbers were arrived at by taking the miles driven by the actual # of gallons needed to fill up the tank.

My first 3 fill ups were normally when I my tank was about half full/empty. And the driving for these 3 fill ups were primarily in the city where the speed limit ranged from 25-45 mph. Maybe 10% of the driving was on a rural road where the speed limit was 55 mph. And those 3 fill ups resulted in mileage of 47, 45 & 48 MPG.

Now, I recently did a 1,500 round trip from NC to PA, the vast majority of it on interstate highways doing around 75 MPH. There was probably 10% of that trip mileage that was in the city once I reached my destination. Once again using actual miles driven, divided by the # gallons purchased, my overall trip averaged out to 37 MPG.

Hope that is the kind of info you were looking for.

I get 57 MPG

EVERY SINGLE DAY I stay off the freeways.

When I go on freeways I get much less.

When I tow I get way less than that.

My real life MPG is 18 MPG (towing at highway speeds) to 57 MPG (daily city commute 22 miles).

If I go a whole tank without ever getting on the freeway, possible, did it one time... that tank will last 800 miles.

I've only had mine for a week, still on the 1st tank of gas but around town and work I've been babying it and getting 45 mpg. Took in on I-95 yesterday for a road trip and dropped that down to 37 with cruise control on. Not surprised since it stayed on gas almost the entire time. Even 37 is awesome with 5 passengers and a bed full of beach stuff. Absolutely loving it.
