How concerned are you with the possible UAW strike?

Then you should have said that. What you said without context is that they want to hurt Ford and I'll say with 35 yrs as a member is complete bull.
Well your union is different from the unions at my airline, because when I have talked to some of those members, that is exactly their expression.

OK, I get it, your opinion isn't based on experience. It's based on other's opinions.

Fossil, I guess I am not communicating clearly. When I talk to union members, they really do not care what is best for the whole company only what is best for their pockets. When contract negations come up, the work takes longer. Now I certainly have not seen this with auto workers, but it certainly would seam to follow suit. I am not saying the slowdown is deliberate, although once a couple of years it ago it was here, but it is only natural that while you are distracted by any conflict you are not going to be as focused on the task at hand as you would be otherwise.
So my opinion is totally base on experience I have had at my place of employment, but not with the auto union.

I wouldn't work in a union shop for the same reasons I got out of the Navy even though I enjoyed going to sea. The hierarchical rank system and the role-based work rules system create unnecessary inefficiencies while replacing merit with seniority.

As a sailor, I could be sent to Captains Mast or be court-martialed for refusing a legal, but counter-productive, order that I knew from experience was destined to fail. I was, actually, but the Captain wasn't an idiot and the officer who wrote me up was so the Captain tossed it out. But the same scenario under my first CO would likely have gone differently.

In a union I'd be just as tightly bound by the rules. I was, in fact, when I applied for a job back in the mid-80's at a GM repair depot. They had an opening for someone who could repair a couple of different products that I had several years of experience with, and one that I had no experience on. But the guy fixing that latter product had bid on the job fixing the other two, even though he had no experience with them, so the only job open to me was the one where I had no experience. I chose to pass, just as I chose not to re-enlist when retention bonuses were dangled in front of me.

But I also saw a flip side. My father was a non-union trucker and our family rented a house his boss owned out in the country. Because of that, my parents were able to raise 5 kids away from the inner city projects, but it came with a price. My fathers boss made it clear that, if my father ever got involved in union activity or took a better paying job, he, along with his wife and 5 kids, would be out on the street in a heartbeat. So, he spent decades as a serf, basically.

Unions protect employees from bosses like that, but they often go too far and focus on the wrong things. I'd like to see them learn that lesson and adopt more of the European model mentioned in an earlier post so that negotiations on both sides are grounded in reality. Unfortunately the leadership of any union, corporation, or government is inherently political so we're all just going to have to live within that reality and hope they don't screw it up too badly.

Totally disagree. Corporations are trying to squash Union movement now, as they always have. Executive pay is higher than ever. No, workers will not lay down and go away.
Of course, yes and yes. Well, the workers underpreforming and the union executives screwing the workers won't help anything. The unions are now basically corporations. The union "leadership" are in bed with the politicians. The unions are in decline and it's partially their fault.

Unions really need to look at their rules in whole, my company was grieve by our union because I carried a box to an aircraft. Geez

With the news of a possible strike happening, how do you think it will affect Maverick production? While I'm not going to pretend I understand how much pull UAW has in Mexico, I sort of think that there will be a bit of pressure to support the striking workers?
I am glad I already have my truck.
If they strike, and they probably will, the supply chain issues could kill Maverick orders.

I just got a text about 5 minutes ago from my local dealer that my Maverick is being built 10/5. Fingers crossed.

Yes but rank and files motives are usually not the same as the higher up union representatives.

As others have stated, it should only impact if their parts suppliers are also members of the UAW.

Unions serve a purpose, but sometimes a union gets too greedy. Hostess ceased to exist because of the unworkable demands of its union. I tell people who strike/boycott the same thing, "be careful trying to prove we can't live without you. We may find out we actually can."
I love twinkies. I'm glad they are still being made.
